IARU Region 1 ATV Contest 11/12 June 2022
IARU Region 1 ATV Contest 11/12 June 2022
A reminder that the IARU Region 1 ATV Contest will take place on 11/12 June 2022.
The region-wide contest takes place on all bands from 432 MHz up. There will only be one main section this year, so no split between home and portable stations as had been the practice during the peak of the COVID epedemic. I hope to run a region-wide 50 MHz ATV contest concurrently, and there will also be 71 MHz and 146 MHz contests for UK participants.
The IARU rules are here https://wiki.batc.org.uk/images/5/5c/20 ... _Rules.pdf; more details to come.
The entry spreadsheet is here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/images/5/57/AT ... 220611.xls
Please put the dates in your diary, as the UK has always done well in this contest and it would be good to hang on to the winnner's place in 2022.

Who's up for a shake-down event either 2 or 1 weeks before?
Worked well last year......

I said at the end of last years contest, having worked the same callsign 16 times, i was going to do something different this year, and I am!
I am on a hiking holiday in the Ravenscar area, june 12 to june 17th so I will only be QRV 2GHz and up from IO94 for the contest. Operating below 2GHz would require carting masts, yagis and a generator so will not be possible
I will also be available in the area the june 18/19 weekend if anyone has any paths they want to try before I return to IO82 or on the way back

Only 10 days to go!
My plans currently (subject to change!) are as follows:
Saturday - The plan is to rove to 3 sites.
Site 1 = IO9GH83 near Wantage at 1pm. As I will be roving the initial bands will be 2.3GHz and higher as they are easier to set up.
Site 2 = IO91BV hopefully by 3pm. Again initial bands will be above 2.3GHz, if time permits I will operate on 70cms and 23cms.
Site 3 = Cleeve Common near Cheltenham IO81XW81 hopefully by 5pm. Should be operational on all bands from 70cms to 76GHz.
Sunday plan is to go to IO90LX53 near Petersfield and be active on all bands from 70cms to 76GHz.
Talkback will be 144.750 vertical, Zello ATV south and mobile 07881914287.
It will be good to see as many stations on as possible - in 2021, 16 UK stations put in an entry but we were beaten by the Netherlands with 21 and Italy with 28 so let's see if we can beat them both this year!

My Plans:
Ellingstring, IO94DF on the Saturday - 1pm to maybe 7pm, depends on activity.
Sutton Bank, IO94JF on the Sunday - 9am till we run out of activity!
I'll have all bands from 2m to 24GHz - not going to attempt to try 6m - too much effort for the return on this outing!
The only band I can't do digital on yet is 5.7GHz.
Hope to work some of you!

I'll be at Walbury Hill IO91gi for both days (Overnight Saturday-Sunday) with all bands 70cm-24GHz. Lots of power on 70 &13cms, big beam on 13cms.
Hoping to work all sorts

On Saturday, from 1300 local until late, I will be at Dunkery Beacon on Exmoor at IO81FD with all bands from 432 MHz to 24 GHz. Looking for contacts in Bristol and the West Country!
On Sunday, I plan to be at Lulworth in Dorset IO80WP, again with all bands 432 MHz to 24 GHz. A good take-off to the North.
Talkback on 144.75 FM and Zello ATV South.
More details later in the week.

Re: IARU Region 1 ATV Contest 11/12 June 2022
Could one of you 'old hands' at this lark, especially for the uwave bands, publish a 'desirable frequency' list?
It would greatly help the 'easily addled' (such as myself) dial up the right frequency and allow me to produce a crib sheet for the expected RX frequency, none of which are 'obvious' from my 3.4GHz and upwards bands.....
Many thanks...
437 +/- 500kHz if busy
23cms
13cms
9cms (3.402?)
6cms (DATV & FM)
3cms
24GHz...

Re: IARU Region 1 ATV Contest 11/12 June 2022
Some rule of thumb guidelines:
70cms = 437 +/- 500KHz if busy
23cms = 1255 or maybe 1285MHZ
In practice, the frequency used on the higher bands is agreed at the time of setting the QSO up - the general rule is to avoid the NB calling channel.
Most stations use transverters from 144 or 432MHz and chosen frequencies are either on a common IF frequency such as 146.5 or 437MHz or perhaps referred to as "1 Mhz up" meaning 1 MHz up from 144MHz IF eg 5761MHz on 6cms.
13cms = The band is split into 2 sections.
I tend to use 2395MHz (the ISS TV frequency) but it may start to suffer from other users - see https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-li ... -broadband
Alternatively, a frequency close to 2320MHz (the NB calling channel) such as 2321MHz is desirable for those using NB transverters (IF = 145MHz)
9cms = NB calling = 3400.1 so any frequency between 3401 and 3410MHz. 3407Mhz is used by stations with a 70cms IF (=437MHz)
6cms FM = 5665MHz
6cms DATV = NB calling = 5760.1MHz so 5761MHz (145MHz IF) or above.
10GHz = NB calling = 10368.1MHz so 10369 MHz or even 10373 MHz for those with a 70cms IF.
24GHz = NB calling = 24048.1 - anywhere between there and 24050MHz which is the band edge.
Sorry if this is as clear as mud!

Re frequencies for working to the North.
23cm: avoid 1255MHz; there is 400MW ERP coming from the NATS radar at Claxby, Lincolnshire on 1254.5 MHz +/- 1MHz.
70cm: avoid integer frequencies; a 0.5MHz offset seems to alleviate some of the issues with the EWS radar at RAF Fylingdales on the North York Moors.
