Reception of M0DTS over a 281Km Path on 436.5MHz DVBS2 125KS FEC 1/2

Thanks for taking the time. Shame about DVBT

Well my mast is up but I'm struggling to get into GB3HV this morning - usually 20+ MER. Must be 'atmospheric absorption' (mist)??? Able to listen on DVBS & DVBT, also TX on both if anyone wants to try. Will be on Zellow ATVSouth.

Poor access to HV was down to a N-Type plug sliding off the end of the mast coax feed....with that fixed Martin was found on HV and persuaded to swing the beam around. Not a lot seen with direct beam headings but I suggested we tried bouncing off the Crystal Palace towers which we can both see. About 2-3dB was then discernible over the noise floor (good old Band Viewer :-)) but Martin thinks the signal was most likely diffracting around the edge of the Shirley Hills which are between us. By dropping to 250ks we just scraped a 2-way, with 12dBd beams each end and 50 watts!!
Given that the same path can be done with 1/2 a watt at 2m and 4m, an interesting experiment....
