IARU Region 1 ATV Contest 12/13 June 2021

Post by G8GKQ » Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:29 pm

This year’s IARU Region 1 ATV Contest will go ahead on the weekend of 12/13 June 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 crisis not all participants will be able to reach their portable sites, and some may feel that they are at a disadvantage in only being able to operate from home due to National restrictions. To address these concerns, as for last year, the contest will be run with 2 sections:
  • Section 1 will be for participants operating from their registered home QTH. No change of operating location will be permitted during the contest for entries in this Section.
  • Section 2 will be for participants operating away from their registered home QTH at any time during the contest. So, even if you operate from home on one day and a portable location on the second day, if you want to add the scores under the rover rule, you must enter Section 2.
Apart from these changes, the rules are as stated in the IARU-R1 VHF Handbook V9.01. An extract can be found here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/images/f/f3/VH ... _Rules.pdf.

Please use the normal entry spreadsheet https://wiki.batc.org.uk/File:ATV-conte ... 210612.xls and remember to select the correct Section on the Summary page. Entries should be submitted your National Coordinator ( contests@batc.tv ) before Monday 28 June.

The IARU Contest covers 432 MHz and above; the BATC will be running a concurrent ATV contest on the 50, 71 and 146 MHz Bands. Please use the same entry spreadsheet.

More details later on intended operation but my initial thoughts are:

Saturday - Dunkery Beacon near Minehead

Sunday - Walbury Hill near Newbury

IARU bands only (no 50 / 70 / 146)

Just hope the Italians are banned from mountain tops!

Just to confirm my plans for next weekend:

Saturday from 1pm - Dunkery Beacon near Minehead IO81FE

Sunday all day - Walbury Hill near Newbury IO91GI

I will have all bands from 437MHz to 76GHz (all digital plus 5665 FM) - sorry but won't have 50,70 or 146 but don't forget there is a BATC contest on those bands.

Talkback will be primarily 144.750 - Omni vertical and beam for horizontal. Also on Zello, DxSpot and 07881914287.

Looking forward to working you and seeing the UK top the number of stations in the contest!

I'll be out portable for the contest.

Locations may vary depending on any input from active stations... any sked requests?

Saturday from ~1200 at IO94DF, Nr Ellingstring, Ripon - Good take-off to south east round through east to north.

Sunday *Probably* from ~0800 Sutton Bank IO94JF, good take-off to south east round through south to South West - May have to change plans on the day as it can be very crowded there in good weather!

I'll have all bands 2m to 24GHz.

Talkback: 144.750 vertical, Zello, DxSpot.
Weather forecast looks like it's going to be very hot, be prepared for poor conditions, late/early operation will be best for dx potential.

Hello
If I can mend a couple more things and survive today's vaccine then I will probably go to Clee Hill village, Shropshire and set up on Magpie Hill. Matt G8XYJ has helped me find parking spots with take off and low radar field strengths. IO82RJ. On both Saturday and Sunday. Matt says it's no good for paths to the north but otherwise good.

If today goes well I'll have 71MHz DVB-S and T flavours. 146.5MHz and 437 as usual and some unproven 1255 MHz for at least receiving G4FRE. 5.6GHz FM TV too.
I can do talkback on 144.750 FM and 144.3 SSB. I used a lot of Zello last year. 07951 31 35 47

Well done Colin.
I think after that #2 jab I am still functioning. Jobs were finished and the car is packed.
I've only 1.8W in 23cm to send up the coax. I think it's because of the insertion loss of the low pass filter. Other than that 71, 146.5 and 437 MHz are functioning and using Pluto PWR settings trimmed for fair waveform. I've 4W on 71MHz DVB-T and 12W on 71 MHz DVB-S2 into a home made cubical quad antenna. I wonder if there will be any takers?
I hope to talk with you today or tomorrow
