50 and 70 MHz ATV Activity This Weekend 13/14 Feb 2021

Post by G8GKQ » Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:34 pm

This weekend is the 50 and 70 MHz ATV Activity Weekend (apologies for the date error on the back of CQ-TV 270).

No rules, just a time to get the 50 MHz and 70 MHz beams cranked up and try to do some DATV on the lower bands.

Centres of Activity 51.7 MHz (max 500 kHz bandwidth) and 71.0 MHz (max 1 MHz bandwidth). DVB-S, DVB-S2 or DVB-T for those capable.

Talkback 144.75 MHz FM or anything locally arranged.

Please post details of your activity (successes AND failures) here.

I will be on from IO91KF with ~100 watts on 50 and 70MHz - if I finish the PA tonight - into a 3 element beam.

G8LES, G4FKK and G4XAT may be in range....

I'll be listening .750 :-)

I will not be QRV as its the CQWW WPX RTTY contest weekend

however as my "even lower band contribution" I did manage to get DVB-T signals received on 21MHz and 29MHz last week!

I am QRV on 71 MHz DVB-T or S, respecting the power limits! and with 50 MHz possible too though, I don't have an RX filter for 6m. Regrettably I am not hearing anyone on 144.750 Horizontal so back to doing other things.

Gareth and I have managed to exchange DVB-T pics on 4m this morning. Only needed 2.5W from here and I got a good lock on 1W from Gareth.

The beam is now pointing towards you Noel; listening 71 MHz 333kHz, QPSK. I'll leave it there for a few hours.

I can only muster just over 5W of clean DVB-T so you're unlikely to see me I suspect. Happy to try though.

Whereabouts are you Mike? I've got a horizontal I could point your way on 144.750 FM?

My 6M dipole is behind the shed and covered in ice so I looked for an alternative. I took the 6M rubber duck antenna off my FT-817 and attached it to a mag-mount in my loft. With my LDG ATU in circuit for safety I then transmit 5W of DVB-T. Here is the result captured on G4CPE's phone camera.

I am in Harwell - beaming towards Surrey - I could just hear you talking to Dave - no path I expect.

Interesting that I got perfect copy from this signal, despite it arriving along with the associated RF garbage. This is unfiltered straight off my 5 element LFA down the end of 75 foot of high spec RG8 whilst receiving Martin G4FKK. 333kS DVB-T.
Are we logging any contacts for reference re activity?
