IARU Region 1 ATV Contest 13/14 June

Post by G8GKQ » Wed May 13, 2020 11:11 am

The IARU Region 1 ATV Contest will go ahead on the weekend of 13/14 June. However, due the COVID-19 crisis not all participants will be able to reach their portable sites, and some may feel that they are at a disadvantage in only being able to operate from home due to National restrictions.

To address these concerns, the contest will be run with 2 sections:

Section 1 will be for participants operating from their registered home QTH. No change of operating location will be permitted during the contest for entries in this Section.

Section 2 will be for participants operating away from their registered home QTH at any time during the contest. So, even if you operate from home on one day and a portable location on the second day, if you want to add the scores under the rover rule, you must enter Section 2.

Please use the normal entry spreadsheet https://wiki.batc.org.uk/images/d/d5/AT ... 190608.xls and state in the address box whether you are entering Section 1 or Section 2.

In 10 days time it is the one and only ATV contest of the year - it is an international contest across IARU region 1 and the UK has done very well in the last couple of years - see https://wiki.batc.org.uk/IARU_ATV_conte ... 7s_results

This year, due to COVID there will be 2 sections for home and Portable stations but operators are responsible to ensure they comply with their local regulations - for full details about the contest and how to enter see https://wiki.batc.org.uk/IARU_ATV_contest

Please try to get on air next weekend and submit a log, even if it is only across town - and don't forget these points will count towards the BATC ladder contest!

If you are planning to be on air, please post your intentions on this thread.

My plans are currently as follows:

Saturday - Whether Down near Petersfield IO90LX with good take off across the Solent Basin, out across to France and along the South Coast.

Hopefully I will have all bands from 146MHz to 76GHz except 47GHz. Talkback will be 144.750, DXspot, Zello and mobile phone.

Sunday - Walbury Hill near Newbury IO91GI with good all round take off.

Bands as Saturday if nothing blows up!

Look forward to working you all...

I will be out portable at least one of the days, most likely the Saturday from IO94DF.
It will be my first portable session this year so expect problems my end!

All bands 144MHz - 24GHz.

If i'm at home bands will be more limited!

Hello

I plan to be on or near Titterstone Clee Hill car park IO82QJ on one or both days. 146.5 and 437 MHz DVB-S and DVB-S2 . 5.6 GHz FM ATV
Call back via 144.750 FM, 07951 313547 or Zello.

23cm gear is poorly and unproven. I would like to use my 71MHz gear but guess that will have to wait for another occasion.

If I get a chance, I'll try to contact the farmer at Random Farm on Magpie Hill for permission to operate there. It's the hill in front of Titterstone Clee Hill but has take-off from NE round to the south.

Got permission to use my usual site in Woldingham Surrey IO91XH (reasonable takeoff in all directions) and will have 4m (5 element LFA), 2m 12 Element ZL (horizontal and vertical with 50 watts talkback) and 5.8GHz FM.
Depending how my prep goes I might be able to add 13cm on a very long loop-yagi but my front-end is an old Drake/Oscar downconverter whereby 2400MHz=144MHz. Alternatively I have Pluto as RX using the DVBS2-GUI Amsast sw. One way would be better than nothing. My tx chain is a bit of a lash-up, still....

I am hoping to be out portable one day - not sure which, it will depend on the weather. My usual haunts in Wales are still out of bounds, so it will be fairly local to me, near Bath Racecourse, IO81TK, 228m asl. I plan to take 4m, 2m & 70cm. This is not a good microwave site because I am too far from the edge of the hill. Further information to follow later this week.

I've a good takeoff to the west from my location Shaun (IO91XH). Looking at the weather probably Sunday here but it might be possible on 4 & 2.
