The problem with PID is once minitioune is locked on, it takes a while to realise if a sound codec changes, so video was always H264 but sound varied. Keep pressing the autopid button. FEC 1/2 was clearly too restrictive as most people were able to exceed the beacon level (tut-tut) so I propose we go for 2/3 next time, the same as the beacon. If you can receive the beacon, you should be able to receive the net. Allowing 2/3 will give much better images. I had some codec issues which I can get around by reducing resolution a little, but might not be necessary with the higher bandwidth.

I also think we should abandon the streamer chat and stick to the QO100 Chat. We have to look at that anyway to see we are on frequency at the correct level, not doubling etc.

I have a recording of the event. Regrettably it is 175Mb and too large to email. Is there somewhere to store it? Assuming any interest.

Mike

Hi All.
Sorry I missed the net will be there next week.
I was late reading the forum and had my station in bits.
Good to see the activity.
See you all next week.

Please don't forget this evening's QO-100 net at 8pm.

Slightly amended parameters this week: FEC 2/3 to improve picture quality.
  • Downlink Frequency 10499.25 (or as high on the transponder as is available)
  • Modulation DVB-S2
  • Symbol Rate 333 kS
  • FEC 2/3
  • Encoding H264
To those of you who suffer from an extended transmission start time, you might consider leaving your encoder/driver running, and simply keying the PA. That way, you can start your transmission at the flick of a switch.

Then there is only the encoding delay to consider. But that is another story!

And it will be live streamed here https://batc.org.uk/live/oscar100net. I'll be streaming a screeengrab of MiniTiouner so you can see when stations come and go - plus it should work without clitches and dropouts.

Live chat on the main Oscar100 chat room here https://eshail.batc.org.uk/wb/

Is H264 only to allow standard desktop boxes to work?

It is to allow LongMynd on the Portsdown to work. It won't decode H265.

Standard STBs won't decode the 333 kS either.

Good to see everyone on the QO-100 net tonight... Disappointed I could only watch the stream and pop up un the chat box occasionally, though.
Need to get my hous move sorted so I can get everything out of storage and get on air :(
