BATC Net on QO-100
Re: BATC Net on QO-100
Hi,
Is 4:3 the only format for QO-100 net or is 16:9 now allowed?
I have been experimenting with a PLUTO F5OEO firmware and OBS.
Still learning how to use OBS but haven't worked out how to switch between deferent aspect ratios quickly.
My main operating mode is 16:9.

Re: BATC Net on QO-100
Hi Martin
Either 4:3 or 16:9 is acceptable. I currently use 16:9 as it does look better on the streamer.
The important thing is that everybody uses DVB-S2, QPSK, 333kS, FEC 2/3, H264. Most players will then cope with any image dimensions, although they might benefit from restarting to get the aspect ratio correctly displayed.
Look forward to seeing your new setup demonstrated tomorrow evening.

Re: BATC Net on QO-100
Partly as a test of my capture setup and partly as an excuse to show of how well Ryde does on things like the net I recorded it yesterday.
Basic setup is a Pi4 running my Ryde dev build connected to an LKV373a, I then capture the data off the network using netcat and uploaded the 6.3GB TS file directly to youtube, no transcoding required.
The curious can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfzMoTfmUpM

Re: BATC Net on QO-100
Just a question out of interest, has the H264 encoding been dropped in favour of what ever one has, be it h264 and h265. I noticed many participants using h265 on Thursday, not a problem just wondering.

Re: BATC Net on QO-100
I believe since the Ryde came out and doesn't seem to mind if it's H264 or H265, the need for H264 only seems to have been dropped.
I have RF power issues at the moment, so I've had to use a lower fec than 2/3 and the H265 helps regain some of the quality lost in the lower fec.

Re: BATC Net on QO-100
In order to encourage newcomers, the first "round" on the QO-100 Net on the first Thursday each month will be reserved for first-timers.
This will start on Thursday 2 September.
So, if you haven't made an appearance on the Net, please join in next Thurday at 8pm. All we ask is that you use 333 kS. Preferably FEC 2/3, but any FEC is acceptable. H264 or H265. 4:3 or 16:9. Monochrome or colour...... The important thing is that you give it a try!
Just announce your callsign on the Wideband chat and I will call you in.
Look forward to seeing some new faces!

...and to add, you don't need to be a member or from the UK.
