As announced in CQ-TV264, the September activity weekend has been changed to become a BATC low band contest. The BATC contest manager will publish the full rules shortly but the basics are:

* 1200 UTC (1pm BST) 14 September 2019 – 1800 UTC (7pm BST) 15 September 2019.
* Contacts on all bands from 50Mhz up to and including 437MHz count towards your score.

This is an opportunity to get on air and register some activity on the 2 special bands we have been awarded by Ofcom (71 and 146MHz).

Hopefully the weather will be kind and hope to see many stations on the air.

BTW - the March 2020 activity weekend will be a high band contest for all bands from 23cms and up including 5665MHz.

I'm planning to be out all day Sunday but could also go out on Saturday afternoon from approx 4pm.

I plan to be focusing on 71Mhz (nominally 333ks but could be less, centered on 71MHz), 146 and 437Mhz. If I do go out on Saturday it will be local to IO91KF and on Sunday it will probably be one of the sites near Swindon / Bristol area with the aim to try and work Rob M0DTS on 71MHz.

More details nearer the time.

I'm planning to be portable on Sunday 15th from IO94JF, good takeoff SE-S-SW for lower bands, some trees make GHz a little worse.
Will be focusing on 4m/2m/70cm but will have other bands with me.

I could also be out on Saturday 14th if there is any interest.

Look forward to seeing you!

My plans for the weekend are as follows:

Saturday afternoon from approximately 3pm until 7pm at IO91JH (Hannington between Basingstoke and Newbury) providing others will be on air to have some QSOs!

Bands will be 146 and 437MHz unless others requested.

Sunday will be at IO91FN near Wantage in Oxfordshire with good take off to the North and East.
Bands will be 71, 146 and 437MHz (plus 24Ghz as there is a NB contest running at the same time).

Talkback via 144.750, Zello DXspot and mobile phone.

Hoping to be active on 4 & 2 and have just built and tested my AMSAT 2M filtered preamp. Any recommendations for software or a website that shows locator to locator paths, or not.....
I can go portable within reason, an hour or so of Bromley SE London, so Ashdown forest, Bluebell Hill, Devils Dyke etc.

September Low band contest Rules

BATC Low Band Contest Rules

1. The transmissions must only take place in allocated amateur bands above 50 MHz and below 440 MHz and must be in accordance with the RSGB Bandplan.

2. Transmissions must not cause undue interference to other spectrum users.

3. As a general principle, the IARU ATV Contest rules apply: https://www.iaru-r1.org/images/VHF/atv/ATV_rules.pdf. The multiplier for all bands is 2 points per km for 2-way contacts.

4. A valid contact will include the transmission and successful reception of a 4 digit code sent by video only. A report on the transmission must be returned to the transmitting station by means of amateur radio.

5. The contact must take place after 1200 UTC on Saturday 14 September 2019 and before 1800 UTC on Sunday 15 September 2019.

6. The contact may be one-way or 2-way

7. Entries must be submitted to contests@batc.tv using the standard Contest spreadsheet here: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/images/6/6e/Lo ... 190914.xls . 50 MHz contacts should be logged in the 6 cm (think 6m) tab.

Hi Gareth

Most of the sites we know about are on the google map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... 288409&z=5 - there's not a lot in your area, mainly because nobody has added any, so feel free to add any new ones.

I don't think there's much activity south of you on 146 or 71 so you probbly need good take off to the north / west - Woldingham view point may be worth a try if you can get over the trees.

There are a couple of path plot programs all of which are free and are listed at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.batc.org.uk/Mapping_tools - the Google map does give the lat and long of any sites / pins which can be put in to the plotting programs.

Hope to work you on both bands :-)

Slight change of plan - I will be out from about 12 noon on Saturday at Walbury Hill IO91GI - good take off in all directions.

Bands will be 50, 71 146 and 437MHz and talkback mainly via 144.750 H and V or 07881914287

I'll be here 51°17'32.2"N 0°00'51.2" IO91XH Limpsfield Road Woldingham Surrey with a reasonable takeoff in most directions particularly West round through North to East.
4M (5 watts 3 Element), 2 (15 watts and 12 element) and 5.8GHz for an airing.
Saturday afternoon and possibly Sunday too if path to Walbury Hill works for me.
