Thurs Aug 8th activity in Bristol area

Post by g8gtz » Thu Aug 01, 2019 4:01 pm

Shaun G8VPG and I will be out on Thursday next week Aug 8th (weather permitting) to provide some footage for a promo video on ATV being made by the RSGB.

I will be at Hackpen near Swindon IO91CL and Shaun will be on Bloringe Mountain near Abergavenny IO81LS.

Bands in use will include 71MHz, 146MHz, 5665MHz FM and 10GHz DATV with talkback on 144.750.

Whilst the primary purpose is to provide some footage of a "real time" QSO over the 90Km path we would welcome any other activty / visitors to the sites.

I'll have a listen on .750 but poor tropo at the moment so not worth venturing out /p.
QRV 2m/23cm/3cm DATV from home at present.

I'll be on Dunstable Downs with 5665MHz and G4CPE says he'll be at his QTH with 2m and 70cms.

Didn't seem to be anyone audible on 144.750 from Hackpen or Bloringe - Good to work G4CPE on 2m. I sent him some 66ks and he sent me 333ks 16APSK on 146.500. The image doesn't really do justice to the quality of the pictures.

After carefully sculpting the National Trust hedge with my sidecutters I was able to peer through the gap with my 5GHz Kit. Sadly an attempt to exchange pictures with Shaun GW8VPG was not so successful. Thanks for the effort Shaun.

Thanks to everyone that went out yesterday and helped make an enjoyable day. I apologise to those that I was unable to work, but the priority was to provide the shots that Peter the cameraman needed. I think he got everything he needed and look forward to seeing the end result. We also had a lot of interest from the great British public and it is surprising how much time this takes. This was my first trip out this year and I think I was a bit rusty! I hope to catch up with everyone again soon.
