The first activity weekend of 2019 is held next weekend.

I'm planning on going out /p on Saturday, location and bands to be decided depending on other activity but will take at least one low band (50 or 70 MHz) and open to suggestions if anyone has some gear they want to test.

Please post your plans here.

On Saturday I am planning to go to Sparsholt above Wantage IO91FN.

Primary aim is to work G4FRE near Malvern but should also be able to work the Bristol team if they are out, G4CPE and G0MJW - he won't need to turn the rig on!

Bands to include 50 and 146MHz but others available on request.

On Sunday we are planning a LimeSDR Mini challenge to see how far you can get on a barefoot LimeSDR on any band - G8GKQ and G7JTT will be out near Southampton and I will be out near somewhere near Newbury - more details later...

I will be out on Saturday 12th at the local tump in IO82UA from around 11am. I will be starting on 6m with Noel but after that will on 2m (or 70cm if anyone wants to try there)

Will not be QRV sunday as it is the RSGB 80/40m Data AFS contest from Wales

The LimeSDR Challenge

On Sunday morning and early afternoon, I will be out /P at Cheesefoot Head near Winchester IO91JB, trying the LimeSDR Challenge with John G7JTT and Noel G8GTZ. The aim is to see how far we can transmit DATV pictures from a LimeSDR Mini without a PA. So 5 mw.

All bands 146 - 3400 MHz. Talkback 144.75.

I might take some power amplifiers for emergency use only.....

Dave not sure but did I see you going through GB3PV around 15-00 today Saturday? I only caught you just before you switched off! Nothing else seen on 23 cms or 5ghz----as usual here!

Anyone likely to be on 5Ghz tomorrow PM? There is life in East Anglia----------but not as you know it Jim! :D :D :D

The barefoot LimeSDR challenge did not go too well today. The best distance achieved was about 100 metres on 2405 MHz. Plenty of room for improvement!

However, the day was a success with one-way 28 km contacts to G8GTZ/P in Hannington on 2.4 GHz and 3.4 GHz using the LimeSDR Mini directly driving Stealth PAs. Also a one-way 15 km to Mike G8LES on 2.4 GHz.

Highlight of the day was witnessing the record-breaking 28 km 76 GHz 2-way contact between G4LDR/P and G8GTZ/P. The path was good enough for Neil to send 2MS full HD video from his C920 webcam.

Some issues to investigate, but a very good first outing for my LimeSDR!

Great day out on Sunday as Dave said LimeSDR challenge didn't go as planned but lessons definitely learn. For example the need for a decent USB hub and 5v supply. Managed one ways (Rx) with Dave running barefoot with the LimeSDR on 13cm and on 9cm with his PA, with me using an old C band LNB. It was also a pleasure to watch the 76GHz tests and a short video of the first contact can be viewed at

All in all a great day albeit very cold and windy,

Visited the Castemorton Tunp, IO82UA78IP on Saturday and managed to get pictures to Noel over the 73km path but Noel's TX was ill so did not make a 2 way QSO but I did detect his signal.
