There were some out portable, I only managed a one way with Noel G8GTZ/p at Win Green on 2m. Did manage to hear the St Austell beacon on the new yagi. And yes the weather was awful at times but glad I went out.

Activity weekend - December 8th and 9th
Re: Activity weekend - December 8th and 9th
Yes, I did go out portable to Win Green IO80WX - I generally find that staying at home hoping to hear stations doesn't really work!
Today was probably the windiest (30+ MPH) and therefore coldest conditions I have experienced - I had to keep reminding myself it is December, so it is to be expected!
But it was definitely worth it as I worked Dave G4FRE/P on Clee Hill IO82QJ on both 71MHz and 146MHz - at 160Km this is a new 71MHz record.
I also worked John G7JTT one way on 146MHz and Ken G4BVK in Bristol 2 way on 146MHz.
Hepburn forecast had put a "U" on the map meaning conditions were unstable and that seemed the case as signals levels were quite low from everyone - there was much QSB on the path to Dave and he was not as strong as expected. I had run really high power to make up - hence the rainbow
Still good fun and looking forward to working people over during the week long repeater contest over Christmas or during the January activity weekend.

An interesting outing in the rain and high wind
Had a qso on 4m with Noel in Win Green at 160km for a new distance record. Much QSB, but at the peak Noel could copy my 5Watts into the antenna
4m Equipment was again the portsdown driving a G4DDK Nacton transverter modified from 70/28MHz to 70/437MHz driving a solidstate PA into a 5ele Powabeam at 5m
The antenna was taken down and replaced by my 144MHZ 9 element Tonna. I tried sending to noel but couldnt get any drive out of my Portsdown on 2m which was a surprise as it worked fine on 437MHz to drive the 4m system. Luckily I had brought the Pluto along so i used that to generate a signal which Noel received and we completed my 1st 2M DATV QSO. On receive I used the 2m contest mhp with the HA8ET preamp onboard which supplied enough selectivity to protect the minituner
