Further 4m tests - Wednesday 25 July
Further 4m tests - Wednesday 25 July
We are planning some more portable 4m tests for Wednesday 25 July. G4BVK will go to Tog Hill, East of Bristol (IO81TK, 209m asl). M0SKM will be on Dunstable Downs. GW8VPG/P will be on the Blorenge mountain in South Wales (IO81LS, 510m asl). The plan is to be set up by about 4.00pm. Steve and myself also want to have another go at the Blorenge/Dunstable path on 5.6GHz. Other stations will be welcome to join in. Please post your intentions here.

Hi
I'm available on Wednesday so will go out with 71 (no improvements from last time) and 5.6 - probably go back to Uffington Hill in IO91FN but will confirm nearer the time.

Arthur,
I am still planning to go to the Blorenge, so hope to speak to you from there and see what we can work. I am taking 4m and 5.6GHz.

All set for todays tests on 71 & 5665MHz. I aim to be at the Blorenge (IO81LS) and set up by 4.00pm. I am taking my smaller 3 element beam for 144.750MHz talkback and will mount it for vertical polarisation, although this can be changed if necessary. Also available on 07378 348 455, Zello & WhatsApp groups ATV south.

Re: Further 4m tests - Wednesday 25 July
Our tests yesterday were very successful and I think we have established new records for one and two way contacts on the new 71MHz band. I had a two way contact with G4BVK/P at 59km range with an MER of 22-23dB each way. Kens 333ks/s H265 video was superb.
G8GTZ/P was at a range of 87km, but Noel had a transmitter problem and was only able to receive my pictures at an MER of 22dB. G4BVK & G8VPG were using 3 element beams and Noel had a dipole. I think the reports indicate that we should be able to improve on these distances soon. I tried sending pictures to G4CPE, but this was unsuccessful. All told, it was a very enjoyable afternoon and an encouraging start to portable operations on this new band.
