159km G to GI on 5.6GHz
159km G to GI on 5.6GHz
Today we achieved a great result of 159km on 5.6Ghz ATV from G to GI.
Myself (M0KPW) and Nick G0HIK, were on Corney Fell, Cumbria. With John GI7UGV at Scrabo Tower, Northern Ireland.
This was the 3rd time we'd tried this path, and it was a case of 3rd time lucky.
We had between P5 and P3 both ways using 'bearfoot' of 600mw and with linears of around 2.5w.
We're not sure, but we think this may be the first G to GI on 6cm ATV.
All stations worked brilliantly.
Some images attached.

Excellent - well done to all concerned!
Only trouble is I've got to rewrite the CQ-TV article that was due to go out tonight!!
Now, where is that map of coastal paths longer than 180KMs

Cheers Noel.
180kms you say... we'll have to look for some higher hills

Yes - I reckon GI or GM to Cornwall at 550+KM would go tonight and tomorrow.
It was done on 10milliwatts of 10GHz back in 1976 https://www.flickr.com/photos/29874435@ ... 987609173/
Both sites marked on the site google map https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... 121417&z=7
Not sure if there's anyone in Cornwall on 5.6GHz apart from G8LCE in Falmouth - and it's too far for a day trip, particularly on a hot summer Friday night / Saturday

Congrats on the DX!
What a difference a bit of hot weather makes to the dx possible

Well done on breaking our record----- by 1kM lads (tongue in cheek) Seriously though a great effort.
All we have to do here in Norfolkshire is await the right conditions and get the troops organised again. Pity we don't have any mountains but I feel sure we can do better than our last attempt. Norfolk lads how about a chat at the Barford rally tomorrow. Myself and Pete G4NJJ will be there?
Note to Noel G8GTZ ---we need you!
You suggested a longer path how about the one from our last location to BENTHAL which I have discussed with Terry G1LPS it looks possible. See the Norfolk to Yorkshire - May 9th and 10th thread.
Alternatively a tie up with the guys in Holland to try a sea path like Bob Platts did years ago on 10 Ghz?
