May 5th and 6th Activity weekend

Post by g8gtz » Sat Apr 28, 2018 11:32 am

Next weekend is the last activity weekend before the IARU June contest so a good time to test all those final modifications to the gear and also make sure the trees and bushes have not taken over your favourite local hilltop!

As usual, it's not a contest, it's open to everyone including home stations, hand helds and portable warriors - it's just an opportunity for everyone to just get on the air and have some fun.

Please post you plans here so everyone can see what's happening.

Fingers crossed, my 70cm DATV transmit setup will be ready by next weekend.

I'll be aiming to get into either BH or TZ from a variety of /P locations. But if there is anyone who'll be active in north-east Surrey / south-west London, it would be nice to try for a (one-way) QSO.

If anyone is in range on Sunday I can be on Dunstable Downs (IO91RU) or Ivinghoe Beacon (IO91QU). I'll take kit for 2m/70cm/5.6GHz.
Ivinghoe Beacon is a bit of a challenge due to the trees, the NE is favoured.

I am planning to be out one day this weekend, not sure yet which one. I will be taking 146.5MHz and 5665MHz ATV. I think I'll give the Blorenge another go, which is very good to the East and South, 515m ASL (Dunstable Downs might be possible?). The weather looks OK both days, Sunday perhaps sunnier. When a few more people post their plans, I'll decide what to do.

Sorted...Dunstable Downs it is.
Shaun I'll be out Sunday morning and I'll be happy to take a look for you on 5665MHz or 2m if you're about.

Wirral ARS will be putting on an HF and TV station GB2HLS at the Hoylake Lifeboat Station, Wirral each Sunday in May, in support of SOS Radio Week (which lasts all month). We should have 2m, 23cm and 6cm.

In collaboration with the Furness ARS, we hope to set up a video link to the Barrow Lifeboat Station GB5LBC, although that may require one of us to do some repeating from a local hill.

I can come on but Harwell to Dunstable Downs is hardly a challenge on 2m, maybe 24GHz. I wonder if anyone is around able to receive 4m DATV? I can transmit it, but I have nobody locally able to receive. Terms of the NOV mean I would need to operate from home on 4m.

Currently thinking to go to the Ridgeway above Didcot on Sunday and hopefully work G8VPG, M0SKM and G0MJW.

Probably take 146, 3.4GHz (NB contest), 5665 and maybe 24Ghz.
