The view on a better day. North is towards the van.

Congratulations, I think that is just a new record? I have ordered some new OS map sheets for the Brecon Beacons and hope to find a site with a good take off towards the North to try and work you. My usual haunt at the Blorenge is blocked to the North by the peak of the Blorenge itself, which is about 50m higher than the car park that I use.

It's tricky. There's usually something else in the way. Even from the top of Pen-y-Fan, the best line of sight path to the north, to somewhere you can actually drive to, looks like the West Midlands.

A few images from our side of the activation on Friday 13th - very misty conditions and we were wet through by the time it was finished. Nick and I measured the output of our TX units, and mine is only putting out +/-150mw so mighty pleased to have worked the path with reduced power.

Well done and congratulations to all concerned, the Southern team now concede the record which we did hold for 9 months :-)

However, I wouldn't grip it too tightly as I'm sure there are plans afoot by others!

This Saturday April 21st, GW3NWR/P and M0KPW/P, G0HIK/P will be trying a 153km path on 6cm ATV from IO83FD to IO84ML. Start time is 9am (apparently there are two 9 o'clocks in the same day).

GW3NWR/P will also have 2m RB-TV.

The 153km path from IO83FD72 to IO84ML81 was achieved without difficulty, with incoming signals averaging P4. That's the longest drive-on line of sight path I can find, so it gets more difficult from here.

G4CBW near Newcastle-under-Lyme was worked on 2m RB-TV at 85km.

The GB3FB Blackpool 9cm repeater was received at good strength on a bare C1W-PLL LNB at 84km.

The weather was very pleasant, with just the occasional gust knocking over the tripod and panel. Thanks to all who took part.
