More 6cm from Cumbria
More 6cm from Cumbria
We had more success from Cumbria into North Wales last night.
I was at a slightly different location than last week week - this time from a few feet above sea level to see if the signal would work along a path that the modelling suggested wouldn't work due to curvature etc. It was a 57 mile path and I received Brian (GW3NWR/P) P5, Brian received me P3 but rain stopped play as I'm sure my signal could be improved with some better aligning..
More testing to following.

Re: More 6cm from Cumbria
GW3NWR/P was at Dolphin near Flint again. 3 two-way contacts were made.
I didn't think that the path to M0KPW/P on Walney Island at near sea level would work, even though it was closer than previous contacts at 93km.
G0HIK/P was at Birkrigg Common south of Ulverston, where M0KPW/P had been on the previous outing and it was a very comfortable 101km path.
G4CBW 67km away near Newcastle-under-Lyme received me on his outdoor system at 'P10'. He was getting bits of me off the side of the panel when I was beaming north. His transmit system was in his bathroom and was shielded by trees, so the return signal was somewhat weaker.
The weather started well, but when the tripod went flying and the heavens suddenly opened, it was time for a quick retreat. G4CBW was received initially with the antenna inside the car, until the rain relented and a few more dB were obtained from outside.

Tomorrow (Friday) evening at 6:15, GW3NWR/P and M0KPW/P, G0HIK/P will be on 6cm ATV trying a 139km path from Esclusham Mountain, North Wales, IO83KB62 to Corney Fell, Cumbria, IO84IH61.

Hi Brian,
Looks like that path will work - but only 138.67 Km by my calculations
Have fun and I hope you make it.

Re: More 6cm from Cumbria
That went very well and M0KPW/P and G0HIK/P were both worked at P4 / P5. It was very murky in the near distance, but at least it was dry with little wind. GW3NWR/P (G4EWJ + G6NOI) was using a TS352 tx with 1200mW to a 24dBi panel and an RC305 rx.

Not much visible in the distance.
