5.6GHz North Wales to Cumbria.
5.6GHz North Wales to Cumbria.
After being weathered off a few times, we finally managed to pick a good day. GW3NWR/P was at Dolphin near Flint. M0KPW/P was at Birkrigg Common south of Ulverston, G1ZIM was at Millom and G0HIK/P was at Walna Scar near Coniston.
A 2-way was completed between GW3NWR/P and M0KPW/P at 101km, almost line of sight, with signals P4/5. It was P5 with lots to spare when M0KPW put on his 2.5W amp.
A 1-way from GW3NWR/P to G1ZIM was completed at P4/5 over 107km. It was subsequently found that there was a problem with G1ZIM's tx and he would have been easily received as he was running more power. I was surprised at the G1ZIM contact, as the path is mostly over water, but very much not line of sight. Perhaps we caught a duct.
No contact was made with G0HIK/P and he unable to move location due to lack of time.
The equipment in use at GW3NWR/P was a TS352 running 1200mW to a 24dBi panel. The receivers were an RC305 FPV type and a DG0VE converter with a Pace MSS508 sat rx. The latter was a few dB better and had the advantage of being able to reduce the video bandwith and turn off the video squelch.
Thanks to all who took part.
Brian

Re: 5.6GHz North Wales to Cumbria.
Congratulations, thats a good series of tests that you have done. I have now completed my 5.6GHz system and can run 1W to a small 27dBi dish. I hope to get out with it now the weather is improving and perhaps might be able to work you from the Blorenge in South Wales or perhaps Cleeve Common near Cheltenham.

It was a very productive day with a lot learnt.
Here's a photos of Brian's test card to prove he was seen (and heard) in Cumbria by M0KPW/P.

Here's proof of Brian's received signal to me in Cumbria

Here's my 5.6GHz ATV station set up on Birkrigg common at the weekend for our tests with Brian.
