24GHz activity over Christmas

While out delivering the christmas presents to the midlands over christmas I got the opportunity to try my 24Ghz DATV system

The transmitter was at home in malvern io82uc with 2W to an 18"dish(PW) with a penny feed . The transverter is described at http://g4fre.com/24g_uk.htm and was driven by the portsdown on 70cm

The final receive location was at IO92EK, Corley moor, near the M6 Corley services 60km away from Malvern. The receiver was a DB6NT MKU245hp 2.5dB NF preamp through a bpf into a db6nt mixer into the Minitiouner. The LO was a db6nt xtal controlled unit. The dish was 2'

Pictures were surprisingly good and there is a few db in hand

By the time the system was setup it was getting dark so the h264 picture out of the G4FRE window (looking east across the Severn Valley) was a bit dark. The plant leaf was being highlighted by the red led on the camera, because as the camera was unboxed it had to be wedged in the plant leaves for support

The transmitter was switched to mpeg2, at least it had callsign capability

Now for a 2 way QSO

I will have to get my 24GHz transverter out. Its 2W and a 38cm dish. It has been so long since I used it I don't even remember the drive level, but I am fairly sure it has a 2m IF.

the more the merrier!

I have found the missing bits for a 2nd 3W transverter system, just need to find a box to start assembling

Hi

Dave GKQ and I will be out on Saturday on 24GHz.

Dave has his home built kit using old DMC modules runing about 50 Milliwatts and I have G4NNS's portable gear on loan but I am currently trying to put together a system based around some NEC Pasolink V4 and Intracom ODUs I have obtained.

Also met with Barry G4SJH and Dave G1EHF today both of whom are keen to use their gear this year, albeit on narrow band, so there may be a revival on 24GHz....
