Re: ATV Activity Weekend 8/9 July 2017
Well it was a fairly quiet outing compared to the ATV Contest weekend but still some interesting qso's!
2 stations worked:
Ken G8VDP on 23cm 2-way Analogue (106km) after failing on 13cm, we will make that work sometime soon hopefully.
I then worked Brian GW3NWR/P over the hills far away in North Wales on 2m (206km), this is the first time we managed a 2-way QSO on 2m!
Went back to Ken and received him on 70cm analogue for a bit of fun, worked well with TVSharp Rx.
Finally I worked Brian 2-way on 23cm, i was sending 333Ks DATV which was received well by Brian, i swithed to 4Ms which did not lock at all, 1Ms was intermittent.
Nice weather this time helped
till next time....73

A good day out on Saturday at a new site IO90LX. Worked:
G8GKQ on 5.6GHz at 85KMs using the £18 FPV kit as described in CQ-TV and 2 wifi dishes although I was using a 2 watt PA I found in the shed . Excellent P5 pictures both ways with at least 10 dB in hand - finding a longer path down South is going to be hard!
G7JTT at 75kms on 70cms and 3cms DATV - one way due to the mandatory equipment failure when portable happened in the 10GHz transmit key line!
G4KLB at 60 Kms on 70cms DATV - good pictures from Colin and I made it in to GB3SQ but it couldn't a decode on my DATVexpress
G7JTT and I tried to work Rolf F9ZQ but didn't make it - we thought it must be condx until we discovered he was in IN96 in middle France rather his home QTH near Cherbourg!
Once again great fun and looking forward to August 12th.

Re: ATV Activity Weekend 8/9 July 2017
The weather at Esclusham Mountain near Wrexham on Sunday was excellent, apart perhaps from the occasionally gusty breeze. I had been using parts of the 5 section telescopic fibre-glass mast for tests at home and out portable during the week and somehow managed to leave the middle section at home. The releasable cable ties I had just acquired came in handy.
QSB on 2m talkback over the 206km path to M0DTS/P was fierce - going from S9+ to nothing at all. Even so, we had 2-ways on 2m and 23cm. We've had several 1-ways on both bands over the years, but finally made it. The 23cm reception at SR333 was very consistent, SR1000 was very intermittent and SR4000 didn't work at all. 2m reception was fairly good with several long periods of reception.
We also had a 2-way on 2m with G1LWX over a 38km path - the first QSO on his Portsdown.
