ATV Activity Weekend 11/12 March 2017
Re: ATV Activity Weekend 11/12 March 2017
GW3NWR/P should be on Rhosesmor, North Wales on Sunday, with a good takeoff from north clockwise to south-east at 900ft. We'll probably have 23cm 3cm analogue tx, 2m 23cm digital tx and analogue and digital rx on 2m 70cm 23cm 13cm 3cm.

IO92GQ should be on air for this weekend, ADM Slot 23cms masthead preamp, 1249 analog and digital 4M/s 1/2 fec.
Hope to run 1249 dvb-S2 1M/s 3/4 fec after this weekend, and provide dtmf in some way at later stage to switch from dvb-S to dvb-S2.

I was thinking about Saturday but it looks like there will be more people on Sunday..
Wx on Sunday is rubbish for dx but seems like the best day to catch people on.
Will be QRV /P Sunday ~11am from IO94MJ - Mainly 2m/23cm but will have other bands if req.

Before going out this weekend, don't forget to apply for your new higher power (50W ERP) 146 MHz NoV from here: http://rsgb.org/main/operating/licensin ... 47mhz-nov/

Fortunately i had the Rain overnight so ended up with a mostly sunny day
I managed two 23cm analogue qso's with G8VDP and G8VAT who i had never worked before!
Gary M1EGI could detect me on 23cm but not enough to work.
G8GTZ and G0MJW worked on 2m fm, heard G3NWR/P but all very weak unfortunately
I finally managed to get a reasonable signal into GB3YT all be it in monochrome for some reason!
Thanks to all those on for an enjoyable day.

The new van operating arrangement is much neater!

Re: ATV Activity Weekend 11/12 March 2017
The weather was very kind to us oop north, bit overcast in the morning but brightened up no end for the afternoon stil a bit murky over a distance though.
I got to my favourite gateway pretty late (about 13:00 ey) and was surprised by how noisy it was next to the road today?? I have been before without noticing anything unreasonable.
Next I was similarly astounded that I couldn't hear anyone on air! 2m, 70cms.. nothing. Using 79GHz for audio comms (Phone) I discovered that people were actually talkingon 144.750, but still nothing heard at my Loc, Ridiculous! 160Ft ASL, I could see for miles to the S, SW, W and NW.
People were passing pictures around and I could see nothing! Except GB3YT which was perfect as expected.
Concluding that I had more power on 23cms than 2 or 70 and a decent beam to boot, we had a try sending pictures to Ken G8VDP in Barnsley, and was surprised to see that he could receive my pic, Unfortunately Gary M1EGI nearby couldn't
Using the phone again with Ken as "Piggy in the middle" I moved to the Northe and passed pictures to Rob M0DTS, he then tried to return pictures and depsite his excees of watts I could see nothing.. I tried 2 receivers, my trusty but old Amstrad SRX200 and a Comtech, with and without a preamp, stil nothing.
So not a brilliant day, but fun none the less, I had aloka round the area and might have a slightly better location for next time.

Ah Rob, your mobile shack puts my car boot to shame, and your antenna system beats my broom handle hands down... but I have a bikebus secret weapon for later. It's still in it's winter hibernation til the end of March.
Glad I could send you something at least, my kit must be astoundingly deaf.. all of it.
Unfortunately in my home location theres nowt, nothing to use as a beacon to rx on air. I need more technical equipment to play with.
