70cms activity 8/9th march
Re: 70cms activity 8/9th march
Update
I’ve managed to bodge a system together yesterday …getting about 150w on 70cms
Hopefully will be around about 13.00 off and on Saturday and maybe Sunday .
As I said it’s a manual changeover from RX to TX due to I have misplaced a decent relay .

Quite a fun day out, a long ish detour to get to the site, annoyingly later on i found out the road was actually open but 'Road Closed' signs had not been removed
Always seem to enjoy 70cm activity days even though i cant receive much!
Mike and Noel received my pictures but rather briefly!
I could see their signals and also detect Russ G4SAQ's signal but no pictures decoded.
I had a 2-way qso's with Dave G4EEV, Ray M0MLJ and Clive G3GJA.
Tried with a few ON/PA stations but not a peep that way.
Caught a brief bit of pink Aurora glow but didn't last, nothing to be seen in this photo taken minutes later!
2x25el Yagi's are good but right on the limit of what i can lift up!!! Look cool though

Re: 70cms activity 8/9th march
Indeed a fun days activity. Other than a huge amount of vehicle noise from the nearby road (all the boy racers and MC riders trying out in the nice WX I guess) pretty much everything went to plan.
Photo shows my set-up. 70cms beam and mast head preamp, drive-on rotator, 2m full wave dipole above it.

In the Netherlands, also the ATV contest (on all bands) was going on.
Looking at the DXspot map many stations participated, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France.
No contact on the map between them and the UK.
We also digged up our equipment with some learning moments as a result:

We also digged up our equipment with some learning moments as a result:
- The handheld batteries could have been charged for years, that doesn't mean they still function in the field...
- A one way B5 contact does not automatically mean a two way contact will also be fact...
- If the 24 GHz setup has a fixed frequency, it is nice if the other station has not changed his fixed frequency.
- An old, heavely twisted thin cable directly connected to a high power battery could result in melting insulation (no, no one has burning wounds).
- If the TFT monitor doesn't function, remember there is a button on the front (to select an other video input) that could have been pressed accidently before you open it to search for faults...
