August activity

Post by G3GJA » Thu Jul 21, 2022 4:17 pm

The next BATC Activity Weekend is on the 13th and 14th of August, with 70cms and 23cms featured.

The following weekend, the 20th and 21st, there is a RBATV contest organised by Veron, the Dutch national society. The VHF bands available in the Netherlands, 6m and 2m plus 70cms, will be in use between 1200UTC on the Saturday and 1800UTC on the Sunday.

Look for activity around 51.7MHz, 144.6MHz and 437MHz. The Dutch stations tend to use DVB-S or DVB-S2 with a symbol rate of 125kS/s and an FEC of 1/2. Also check dxspot.tv which is used extensively by Dutch stations.

DATV signals on 2m from the Amsterdam area have already been received in the UK by G4YTV so there's a chance to make the first UK to PA two-way DATV contact at 144MHz.

Dutch RBTV contest - August 20 / 21st

Post by g8gtz » Thu Jul 28, 2022 8:38 am

As Clive said in the previous post , there is a RBATV contest organised by Veron, the Dutch national society on August 20th and 21st. The VHF bands available in the Netherlands, 6m and 2m plus 70cms, will be in use between 1200UTC on the Saturday and 1800UTC on the Sunday.

More details later but I intend to make an effort and go out portable on the Sunday, probably to Walbury IO91GI, with my QRO station on 50, 146 and 70cms.

It would be good if any Dutch members reading can post potential Dutch activity here and publicise UK activity in Holland.

UK stations should note that DXspot will be primarily used for talkback in the Netherlands - we just need a mobile (or Portsdown) client for the chat to save taking a PC out portable!

I may have look out to Ravenscar (IO94RJ) for the 20 or 21st with 2m/70cm but I'll decide closer to the time which day.

I should be available for the 13th/14th BATC activity on 70/23cm.

Re 20 / 21st - I will only be out on Sunday (21st) - BBQ on Saturday.

Re 13 / 14 - I will probably be out on Saturday but doubt many southern stations will be out on Sunday as it is the big Flight Refuelling Rally.

Also updating plans here, (too hot to go out with portable stuff and generator) 70cms only from home but with big PA and beam. Happy to try anytime, will have Zello on from around 9:30am with a reasonable path to the West and East, some chance North and no chance south.
JO01AI Hayes Bromley Kent.
We can give it a try.......

I will be monitoring 437MHz over the weekend. I am using a Portsdown with a MiniTiouner with ~ 42dB of filter gain in front of it and a 10 ele beam. I do not have ability to transmit at the moment as I have no PA this is under development.. I am located in in a flat in Avery Hill JO01AL. Hope to see some signals over the week end.

Unfortunately didn't get to work some stations but conditions along the east coast were generally very good.
I stopped overnight and it was still open this morning until ~10am when the heat put a stop to it.

Nice inversion layer seen east through south round to west.
Tried to grab a snap of a meteorite as there were lots to be seen but non fell in view of the camera, so just a starry midnight shot of the van and antennas had to be it!

Nice to work:
G4YTV - 1-way 70cm, 2-way 23cm
G0KOO - 1-way 70cm, 2-way 23cm, 2-way 3cm
G6ZVE - 2-way 23cm, 1-way 3cm
G4CPE - 2-way 70cm, 2-way 23cm
G0MJW - 1-way 70cm
G4FVP - 2-way 70cm, 2-way 23cm

Repeaters seen:
23cm:
GB3EY
GB3GG
GB3TN
GB3TV
GB3ET
GB3YT
GB3TT
GB3VL
GB3PV

3cm:
GB3LX
PI6HLM
PI6ATV
PI6ZDM
PI6ZTM

A very enjoyable outing, best in a while, thanks to all worked and spoke to on .750.

A lot of DC was turned into heat operating on 70cms, but unfortunately nothing other than an occasional 'header found' message was managed. Not even a peep from stations previously worked on 70. Very hot and soporific down south all weekend.
Glad you 'got your monies worth' Rob :-)
