Activity Planned for Thursday 29 September

Post by G8GKQ » Mon Sep 26, 2016 10:15 am

G4GUO, G8GTZ and I are planning some 437 MHz DVB-S2 tests on Thursday 29 September from 1100 onwards.

I will be on Portsdown Hill, above Portsmouth, Charles will be at his home QTH near Worthing and Noel will be /P somewhere tbd. Dave G0EID may also be active from East Grinstead.

Talkback will be on 144.75 and Noel and I may also have 10 GHz RB-TV capability.

Please post here if you are likely to be available!

The tropo forecast looks favourable for Tuesday evening. I might pop out to North Wales, with a good takeoff to the North.

Early Wednesday Morning Obliged

Post by G8DKC » Wed Sep 28, 2016 8:48 am

Tuesday evening looked promising 144.750 good through ZZ and HV, but when switching off at 23:00 nothing getting through on 437Mhz.

All looked up at 5:50 this morning, yet again to the South, ZZ still avoiding my signals, have a 19 element Yagi for 437Mhz, that must go up.

Good signals into GB3HV on 437Mhz 2 m/s, turned power down to 5W over 163Km from my 3 Element Yagi:-)

Thanks to GB3TZ being streamed by GB3BH, monitored my signals to TZ at 104Km, my Tropo path to TZ can be more challenging than to HV.

Back to GB3HV, switched to RB-TV (437.5Mhz 333 m/s 7/8 Fec) via Skype DTMF and was in, turned the power down to 10W before losing lock.

North West to North East is difficult from here due to very local hills, but it is useful having GB3GV on the doorstep at 50M higher.

Hi Dave,

Any follow-up?

How did the tests go? I saw a bug was found in the DATV Express S2 code. Can I take it you were also trialing Minitioune V0.5, is it good to go?

Hi Steve and Dave.

I had seen testing DVB-S2 in workshop a picture behind picture artefact, but then was ok.

Heard about something like this over .750 talkback on the day?

Was playing with various settings etc. Haven't seen this again, any thoughts?

Great picture though, more tests to follow.

Hi Dave,
Thanks I had found your comprehensive post; a useful start point for the uninitiated. I can't wait for the release of DVB-S2 capable Minitioune.
