CAT13 Comments

Post by G8DGR » Sun Oct 27, 2013 7:26 pm

Hi
I watched the streams on both days as was very impressed with the topics and the speakers.
Noel and team - thanks!

As was no doubt intended the content raised more than a few questions.

1. 13cms is no more so what happens to repeaters like BH?
2. There have been a few NOV's released mostly for 3.4Ghz so which repeaters will TX 3.4Ghz, when and on what frequencies?
3. Noel was seen to wave a small box about saying " This is what you need for 3.4" . What was in the box?
4. Do we know when GB3HV will start transmitting on 23cms?
5. I do hope that in on RF and out via the web will not become norm for ATV repeaters.
6. Digilite and DATV - seem to rely on a dedicated PC to run - Is this correct?
7. Whilst at the Friedrichshafen show I saw a USB stick that did narrow band DVB-T. Anybody tried one of these?
8. Pictures from the ISS seem to be surrounded in mystery. "Keep an eye on it and you may be lucky"

Hi Rod,

Thanks for the comments - most of the answers to your questions are already on the forum, so it always best to look around before asking and is also the reason why we are running the ticker listing the latest forum topics on the streaming pages.

1. 13cms is no more so what happens to repeaters like BH?
See this thread for the details of what is happening http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3176 but most likely they will get alternative frequencies in 3.4GH or 10 GHz. The latest update was given at CAT13 and will be available in the archive section but the date for changes has now slipped in to FY 2014 / 2015.

2. There have been a few NOV's released mostly for 3.4Ghz so which repeaters will TX 3.4Ghz, when and on what frequencies?
3 licensed, non on air yet as 3.4GHz presents new technical challanges - see http://www.ukrepeater.net/repeaterlist5.htm for details on the 3.4 GHz and other repeaters.

3. Noel was seen to wave a small box about saying " This is what you need for 3.4" . What was in the box?
See http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3298 but unfortunately we sold out at CAT13.

4. Do we know when GB3HV will start transmitting on 23cms?
The CAA have rejected the NoV application due to potential interference to airborne radar sites in SE England - ETCC is currently trying to arrange a discussion directly with CAA.

5. I do hope that in on RF and out via the web will not become norm for ATV repeaters.
No, I don't see why it would, but it does mean repeaters can "get on air" whilst awaiting NoV approval.

6. Digilite and DATV - seem to rely on a dedicated PC to run - Is this correct?
Rob M0DTS and others have been working to make the MK808micro computer a digilite controller - see http://www.m0dts.co.uk/index.php?tag=DATV&item=85

7. Whilst at the Friedrichshafen show I saw a USB stick that did narrow band DVB-T. Anybody tried one of these?
See http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3158 and http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3285

8. Pictures from the ISS seem to be surrounded in mystery. "Keep an eye on it and you may be lucky"
No mystery - guess what there's forum topic on it http://www.batc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3182
