GB3HV site under threat

Post by G8LES » Wed Jul 23, 2008 11:43 am

GB3HV site may become unsustainable for members as new owners want a commercially based rent of £2,000 per anum plus VAT.

Currently negotiation continues on the cost but it is not looking good, and of course it could be put up further still at any time.

At the moment there are some alternative sites but of course the site is but just one factor, getting a site change licence is quite another. However we have been co-existing with the CAA LHR radar with only 128dB loss between us for some 16 years now without any interference issues from either the users of from the repeater.

The Home Counties Club is applying for other amateur sites to see how we get on.

A number of changes are planned for the repeater including working more on linking.

We have now Visilink installed which allows users to look at other repeaters via our BroadBand Connection, there is an RF link to BH and Netmeeting.

70cm ATV input is suffering a dead pre-amp and the preamps for 23cms are unstable indicating a poor match to the antenna or 20 years worth of weather corrosion. So these things will be fixed if we move, or as soon as we can get a rigger if we stay.

John G8MNY is repairing the VCR which is off site at the moment.
