MK808/DigiLite

For those wanting to play about with the 'Stand Alone' DigiLite please visit my page.

This is kind of a beta setup, It's not working perfectly by any means but definitely good enough to play about with!

Please comment/question/bug report on here.

I've updated the SD Card image now with an easy way of setting up the MK808 for use without the controller.

Info is here http://www.m0dts.co.uk/?tag=DATV&item=118

This only controls the DigiLite, not the VCO, ideal for 70cm with fixed settings.

Let me know if there are any problems!

I have the fixed version working well here with a Hauppauge HVR1900. I get an occasional video/audio glitch on a Labgear HDR300 rx.

MK808/DigiLite

Post by F1CJN_alain » Wed Dec 18, 2013 12:05 am

I have installed Picuntu on the SD card/MK808 and I have now the the Linux interface on the screen.
Then I have programmed the nocontroller = ok.
And I am stuck now because I am not very familiar with Linux. How to start the program in the Linux environment ?
Best regards

I am also a Linux beginner. I am sure that the real experts will be here soon.

I find that if the DigiLite and PVR are both connected, then the program starts automatically after power up.

Sometimes it does not boot. It either goes to the default (initramfs) prompt or gets stuck while booting.

If all goes well the software should start automatically every time after boot up once you have configured with nocontroller.
The PVR light usually flashes briefly then stays permanently on if the encoder starts up correctly.
Boot up takes 30sec or more.

There will be some text on screen from the HDMI output if the software has started up correctly, no user intervention should be needed.

Two quesries:-
1. There are a number of MK808MK808B modules around but it is not clear if they all have the requisite two USB ports. I did see a reference to the later ones only having only one true USB port and one power only USB port. Perhaps it is just me getting confused as usual.
2. I may want to be able to feed mpeg video to the Digilite. At present I can just send the streams from the PC. Problem is whether I can switch between my current standard feed using a PC to stand alone mode using controller and MK808?

I have just realized that I have a PVRUSB2 29xxx model instead of the 24XXX  so this is why it does not work.
I have to wait for a new release.

You can use a USB multi port hub if there is only one port, not advised but does appear to work OK here with a 4-way one.

This will be difficult, once the MK808 has booted up and in the correct SR/FEC is selected you could connect the main pc to the DigiLite and it will work but you will not be able to change any settings until the MK808 is re-connected and re-booted.

Hi Alain... yes sorry about that!
I don't have a 29xxx version to play with still so no progress on this, i'm sure someone else has one and the expertise...

If you examine the output of 'dmesg' command in Linux it will help us find the problem with the 29xxx driver.
Best to plug in the PVR, wait a few seconds then run 'dmesg', the driver install information will be there including the errors.
