Streaming directly from MiniTiouner

Post by g8gtz » Mon Feb 18, 2019 12:01 pm

A new page on the BATC wiki tells you how to directly stream any received signal straight from MiniTioune to your channel on BATC streamer.

This will be appreciated by those not able to receive the Oscar 100 DATV signals!

Note it does require some understanding of command line and batch files etc and it also requires a reasonable PC to receive and stream high bit rate signals at the same time.

If you have an Android based "smart" TV and want to watch what you're receiving on a big screen from the comfort of the couch you can stream from MiniTiouner directly to it.

Image

Configure Minitiouner to send to the IP address of the television, multicast might work too but I've not tried.

Install the VLC player on the TV from the application store and use udp://@:1234 as the network address in the same way as you would VLC on a desktop. 1234 is the port number and should match what is set in the configuration file.

125kS didn't look too bad either on such a big screen, my callsign is at the top in case you missed it.

Perhaps I can save somebody else the pain that I have just had with this in my ignorance. With Minitioune v0.9beta7 it is the TS_AddrUDP line in the .ini file and not the TS_LocalIP line that needs the destination IP address. My schoolboy French sent me in the wrong direction. As in...

; adresse UDP pour transférer le TS
; UDP address for TS transfer
;.....................................
; UDP address for TS
;TS_AddrUDP=230.0.0.10
; you can try a virtual address if you have no Ethernet or Wifi connexion
TS_AddrUDP=192.168.1.130
TS_Port=1234
; local IP used for sending the TS
; mettre ici l'IP que vous utilisez pour faire l'envoi : localIP
; cela sert dans le cas ou vous avez plusieurs réseaux locaux comme chez moi
; un réseau wifi pour Internet et un réseau local en ethernet
; NE METTRE QUE SI VOUS AVEZ BIEN VERIFIE VOTRE IP DE VOTRE CONNEXION RESEAU
;TS_LocalIP=192.168.1.55

I have problems streaming to the streamer...
I can reach the streamer and actually I can see my stream but I get a lot of errors...
I loaded the last ffmpeg version: ffmpeg-4.1.3-win32-static as suggested (even if I have a 64K system).
I am using MiniTioune_V0_9beta8_9 and a MiniTiouner Express board.

I attach here a copy of the "flow" with highlighted in red the errors I get.

thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

ON v0.9 your UDP entry in the MIniTiouner Config file should look like:

TS_AddrUDP=127.0.0.1
TS_Port=1234

But should I just be quoting the local up address?

I get loads of errors in the stream.

I also get streaming errors with v0.9beta7 You can see the result here. This is a solid off air signal on the local monitor.

Hi Justin

What is the processor load for ffmpeg on your PC? I wonder if it is struggling with the HD picture.

Dave, I think you are right! Why did I not think of this?

Hitting 70% just on ffmpeg and 100% on processor (it's Dell XPS 630i a Core 2 QUAD with 8GB RAM and C drive is a 512G SSD its a few years old now). Memory usage is under 4GB

It's a 64 Bit version of W7, is it possible to use the 64Bit version of ffmpeg? Unless you know of any optimisations that would help?

Other alternative is to use the Portsdown, can the Minitiouner and Portsdown do the streaming yet? Objective it to take the off-air signal at my house and stream to the BATC web site with dedicated hardware.

Other thought is to reduce video to 1080i or 720p (Currently 1080p)

Best regards, Justin.
