Password reset procedure

Post by g8gtz » Wed Aug 06, 2014 9:09 am

Several people have had some difficulty resetting their password for the main BATC site and the streaming site (not the forum).

We have revised the instructions on the main login page at https://batc.org.uk/login.php

We have also published a step by step guide at http://www.batc.org.uk/club_stuff/reset.html

I have personally checked the procedure again this morning and it does work. The major problem people seem to be having is that even after resetting your password, you will still see the warning note for others at the top of the login page – please ignore this and log in normally using your new password.

I think the MIN ten character requirement using a combination of UPPER case/lowercase and numerical characters is a bit of an overkill, even my online banking doesn't require this level of hassle, have had to send myself an email with login details & save to a set folder just for future reference.

Am I the only person to have problems with my password for the streaming site over the past few days? I get a new password, but it only works for a day or so. This afternoon, I got two passwords, but neither worked, whether I copied & pasted or typed them in by hand. After my third request, it would appear that the system has timed me out. Can someone please help?

Hi Shaun,

Sorry you're still having problems - just done a reset and sent you an email.

Hi

Really sorry everyone but see the following from Chris G1FEF:

I have completed the re-coding of the BATC members portal (and batc.tv login) as requested.

One consequence of the security changes is that everyone will have to re-enter their password again, sorry but there was just no way to get everyone's password as it’s encrypted using md5, it’s now encrypted using a blowfish hash that is (at todays standards) virtually uncrackable.

This affects http://www.batc.org.uk and http://www.batc.tv but NOT the members forum.

So starting at 6pm UK time on Tuesday 19th August everyone will have to reset their password again - if you follow exactly the step by step guide here http://www.batc.org.uk/club_stuff/reset.html it will work - I know I've just done it.

Once again apologies but we are very keen to prevent a re-occurance of the hack that happened 2 years ago.

WARNING!!!
If you are using Windows 8, 8.1 or 8.2 DO NOT copy and paste as it takes the hidden text formatting with it and the password will not work. You must type in the password.
