View the Perseids Meteor Shower on the BATC Streamer
A number of BATC members are involved with the GB3MBA 50 MHz Meteor beacon, and for the Perseids meteor shower (peaking this weekend), we have set up 2 streams showing waterfall displays of the meteor reflections. The streams are labelled "Meteor RX Devon" and "Meteor RX Hampshire" in the Stream Index https://batc.org.uk/live/, but can also be viewed on VLC using the network URLs: rtmp://batc.org.uk/live/gb3mba and rtmp://batc.org.uk/live/gb3mba2.
I have attached a note describing what you can expect to see, and there is also an article on the Independent Newspaper website: https://www.independent.co.uk/space/per ... 90238.html
The intention is to install more receivers around the country which will feed their data back to a central server. A consolidated view of all the waterfalls will be available on that server and the BATC streams of the waterfalls will be discontinued.

Re: View the Perseids Meteor Shower on the BATC Streamer
when I try to view using VLC rtmp://rtmp.batc.org.uk/live/gb3mba2
I get sound but there is no video. but there is video on batc website using HTML5
With gb3mba there is no video on html5 or via VLC just sound.
All other batc streams I can watch no problem.
Just thought I would point this out .
Cheers Mark

I get both sound and video on both rtmp.batc.org.uk/live/gb3mba2 and rtmp.batc.org.uk/live/gb3mba when using vlc

Works for me, some cracking 'pings' this morning. I can just about see some aircraft trials on my PD4 home system (high noise floor).

Both the "Meteor RX Devon" and "Meteor RX Hampshire" streams are running with audio and video, but they do not seem to always start up properly when selected.
If you only get audio or video, or neither, please cancel the selection and try again; sometimes it takes a few tries. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but I think that I may not have optimised the ffmpeg command that is sending these streams to the server.
This is only a temporary solution; we are currently developing a non-BATC solution (hosted at https://ukmeteorbeacon.org/Home) that will display up to 6 waterfalls from different locations on a single screen. The BATC-based solution is something temporary that we have put together to cover the Perseids which has generated significant media interest https://www.independent.co.uk/space/per ... 90238.html.

If you are having trouble with the BATC Streams, you could try this YouTube stream which shows both receivers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWVBlA-_YDw
