Is there any activity on GB3UD these days?
Is there any activity on GB3UD these days?
I keep having a look on the streamer but never catch anyone on it. I was toying with the idea of a 23cms Yagi to see if I can see it, and it can see me, but I am not sure if it's worth the cost and hassle. Any idea when anyone is on it please? Thanks from Chris 2E0ILY in IO82qv

Re: Is there any activity on GB3UD these days?
I think it is occasionally active.
I have been able to receive it direct in Bolton for many years, both analogue and digital. It is line of sight. However, it is still using what is now obsolete DVB-S at 4167 Ms MPEG2 and with odd PIDs, so not readily compatible with my normal TX/RX. Like most repeater groups I suspect they are struggling for support which is a pity as it is a good site with wide coverage. There is little to no terrestrial DATV activity in the North West nowadays beside repeaters and QO100. Not unique to DATV, it is now even possible to find a clear FM channel on 2m in the evenings now.
When up there, I can get into GB3UD with an original Portsdown with the filter-modulator, but I have not taken that up recently as I generally don't hear or see anyone on the repeater. I understand there are alternative inputs, but not outputs.

Re: Is there any activity on GB3UD these days?
Thanks for the detailed reply Mike, it's a shame there's so little traffic. I will keep an eye out for cheap gear, but I can't justify spending much if there's so little activity. A bit of a vicious circle really though.
I hadn't realised GB3UD had such a wide catchment area and could be used as far as Bolton!
Thanks again.
