Mike Cox - SK

Post by G8GKQ » Sat Apr 16, 2022 7:22 pm

Sadly, we have been notified that Mike Cox, who was BATC President from 2000 - 2006 has died.

Mike Cox joined the BATC in 1955 and he accepted the honorary presidency in 2000 (CQ-TV 192). Mike started work with Rediffusion studios at Wembley and moved to ABC television at Teddington in 1961, where he was heavily involved in experimental colour development and demonstrations. Mike founded “Michael Cox Electronics” with the Coxbox colour synthesiser and going on to develop a very successful range of studio equipment. Mike joined the IBC management committee in 1988 and became deputy chairman in 1991.

His funeral is planned to be held at Mortlake Crematorium at 12.00pm on May 17th.

Thanks Dave, for letting us know.

During the late 1980s I worked in the ITCA development lab at Scottish Television and spent a lot of time working with Mike & Dave Bryant on the first UK built digital studio mixer which was installed at the Thames Television studios in Teddington. It was the first studio which ran all the signal distribution in digital parallel. You have never seen so many ribbon cables in the back of a bay!

Mike was a very talented engineer and an extremely generous person who will be greatly missed.

Further information from Norman Green concerning Mike's Funeral:

Dear Friends,

I would just like to confirm that the funeral of Mike Cox is on Tuesday, May 17th at 12.00pm at Mortlake Crematorium and there is a reception afterwards at The Richmond Hill Hotel TW10 6RW.

Could I please ask you to circulate this email to any of Mike's friends that you may know?

If you could let Barney Cox, (barney.cox@gmail.com), know if you will be attending it would be most useful for calculating the hotel reception numbers.

Many thanks,

Kindest regards,

Norman
