Frequency changed?

Post by G0DJA » Mon May 12, 2008 2:38 pm

Whilst checking the Leicester Repeater Group website http://homepages.stayfree.co.uk/lrg/system.htm for updates on when the TV repeater might come back on air, I noticed a discrepancy between the frequency quoted on the RSGB repeater list (1816MHz output/1249MHz input) and that shown on the groups website (1218.5MHz output/1249 input). I'm assuming the group website is correct and the RSGB one hasn't been updated lately.

Well, an output of 1816 MHz is outside the 23cm band, so that's wrong.
an output of 1218.5 MHz is also outside the band.
23cm band is 1240 MHz to 1325 MHz in the UK.
See: http://www.rsgb.org/spectrumforum/bandp ... master.htm
I suspect that the output frequency should be 1318.5 MHz, a similar frequency to all the other 23cm repeaters.

Sorry, the confusion was due to my typos! The RSGB site says 1316MHz and the repeater group site says 1318.5MHz...

Hello I am the repeater keeper for GB3GV.

I can confirm that the output frequency for GB3GV is 1318.5 MHz as stated on the Leicestershire Repeater Group website. GB3GV was the first television repeater in the UK to go on air operating from a temporary site located at Glenfield west of Leicester, hence its call sign ending with GV standing for Glenfield Video. It’s Original frequency was 1311.5 Mhz. ( see CQ-TV126 ).

After a few months of operation at Glenfield GV was relocated to the Leicestershire repeater groups site at Markfield, within days of the site change it was found GV was causing severe interference problems to the Clee Hill CAA radar. With the cooperation of the CAA and the radio interference people a frequency was found that did not cause them problems. ( ie 1318.5MHz. )

I took over as repeater keeper in the mid eighties when GV had been off air for a few months due to the main aerial mast having collapsed. After the mast and GV had been reinstated we started it up again with some more tests on our licensed frequency of 1316 MHz, the people at the Clee Hill radar site were contacted and interference was still found to be a problem to them. Consequently GV has now for nearly 25 years been operating on 1318.5 MHz without any reported problems.
