GB3EY now at full height
GB3EY now at full height
The tower was raised to its full height today so that the GB3EY Alford Slot is now at 25m AGL. The repeater continues in beacon mode running 24/7 with 11w ERP and reports would be most welcome. Contact details are shown in the scrolling banner at bottom of the screen.
GB3HS (2m FM / Fusion / D-star) and GB7HU (70cm D-Star) on the same tower were switched back on with full power and new catenary was completed to support the LDF5-50A feeder used for GB3EY. New antenna configurations for the voice repeater have been completed and a dual band 2m / 70cm colinear has been installed for RAYNET / 4x4 Response use too.
Work has started on a logic for GB3EY based on the VMACv2 from G8PUO but initially the old analogue repeater's logic that has been updated by G3RMX will be used. Progress has been made on the 18w RMS transmitter for the repeater and a duplexer has been aligned. A further filter made by G3JVL is available if more isolation is needed.
So far, the repeater group's committee has spent in excess of £1750 of their own money replacing guys, turnbuckles, catenaries, coax feeders, antennas and installing an electric luffing winch.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IT WAS WORTH IT!!

Sounds like great work by all involved!
I'll be out portable sometime soon for some more checks and even at home with 3m dish... I may detect something like i do with YT.

Rob, it would be quite something if you managed to see it from home! The path doesn't look good and will need aircraft scatter or tropo refraction to get it over the lumps. I look forward to seeing your reports. 73 Clive

Re: GB3EY now at full height
Hi Clive, thank you for all the effort you and the group has gone to so far!
As yet I've seen nothing from my home QTH IO93gl, so looking forward to the new PA going in circuit as this might just bring the level up enough.
I could do with fitting a mast-head preamp, so another thing to factor in why I may not be receiving it.
I've yet to go out portable to look for EY, I also have a new 2nd portable site which I can use so when I do go out testing next I shall try getting to both sites.

Thanks for trying Gary
I suspect that a mast-head pre-amp is essential for your area. Coverage map as below assumes a pre-amp and a 10m mast: 73

Re: GB3EY now at full height
Sorry Clive I've been neglecting to report, but TBH with the crappy weather this week, I only used the Car Ae on a couple of journeys.
I'm afraid I haven't seen EY all week as a result, even at places where I should when the Ae was on the roof.
I did mention that the signal around here had dropped as a result of the raising of EYs antenna, but I did still receive it at various points, I suspect the poor weather has probably just lowered the signal range a little. Hopefully the better forecast for next week will return things to normal.
