ATV repeaters in the UK

Post by g8gtz » Sat Feb 24, 2024 10:18 am

Following Ofcom's announcement this week about the general relaxation of licensing conditions, including repeaters and beacons, here is clarification for ATV repeaters.

The link to Ofcom's announcement is here https://www.ofcom.org.uk/news-centre/20 ... o-innovate

The actual changes, which have come in to effect already, are here: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/ ... cision.pdf and appendix one highlights the changes to the license.

In summary, operators with a full license can run a repeater with less than 25 watts erp without applying for an NoV but for units running 5 > 24.9 watts you need to request a callsign from ETCC. This is for any mode including ATV repeaters.

HOWEVER (and it is a big HOWEVER) repeaters transmitting in 23cms band still need a full NoV application and primary user approval. On other bands you do not need to apply for an NoV if less than 25 watts erp but I would encourage you to co-ordinate your application through ETCC.
