Source of potty parts

Post by M0NDE » Wed Jun 28, 2023 11:18 am

At the Newbury Rally I tried to find out where to obtain a potty for my dish. Apparently these are available from Holland. Does anyone have details please?

Try here https://www.passion-radio.com/satellite ... 20Es'hail2.
Or here...but he is out of stock, but with links to the original article etc.http://www.hybridpretender.nl/poty.html
Even with basic tools they are not that hard to make, its the patch that needs precision but hacksaw, file, step-drill and 4mm nuts as spacer when you solder the whole lot makes it simpler.

Brian, no, the gap should be 3mm which (my) 4mm nuts conveniently are 'thickness-wise' ....

Nutters :D - M4 nuts are often 3mm thick, but measure it. The right gap is the most difficult bit.

There are some on Ebay but they are pricy. You could make your own, it isn't that hard, that was the point of the design, it could have been more complicated, with better performance, dual feed points, phasing lines, wider bandwidth, better circularity, but hard to make. I wanted to design a simple single point feed that almost anyone could replicate, a square piece of copper or brass with the corners cut off, a round bit and a length of 22mm copper water pipe. The compromise is the bandwidth, which is only a few percent, but if you are careful with the measurements, it should work, perhaps with a little bending. If you make the patch from copper it will be much easier to tweak by bending. With brass, you have to bend it more than required and hope it springs back to the right place.

The metalwork on those AMSAT feeds is OK, but I have heard that the dielectric lens is not optimum for DATV use.

Hi Dave.

Yes, people also buy the rocket lnb and take the lens off and use on poty.
