Activity Weekend 18/19th February 23cms and up

Post by radiogareth » Sat Feb 11, 2023 2:46 pm

Anyone any plans for this event? I now have a small shed at the base of my pump-up mast so I can run much shorter feeders for 23 &13cm, not that I'm in a very good location (JO01AI Hayes Bromley Kent) but happy to try. QRO on 13cms too with a big UMTS amp and a 46 ele loop-yagi at 10m AGL.
Slight chance of operating from the Devils Dyke (Brighton) locality if that's any help, on at least one of the days.

And then, for May, the activity weekend coincides with National Mills Weekend and the "Mills on the air" event. Our local Mill at Keston usually host the Crystal Palace/Bromley radio clubs for HF and VHF. I'm hoping to get Mr Whippy on site and run 70cms and 13cms. A good opportunity to try 'hilly' (or at least windy) locations perhaps.....

I'll be out one day from the moors up here, maybe the Sunday this time as the weather looks better.
Shame it was not the weekend just gone as there was some tropo about!

I'll be active with 23cm and up.

I'm having a gentle start to the portable season with some 5.6 GHz FM activity this afternoon. I'll be on Thruxton Hill near Andover in Hampshire (IO91EE) from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm.

I'll only be equipped for 5.6/5.7 GHz FM/DATV and 144.75 talkback.

I wonder is a single frame received counts as 'activity' ? ;-)
With 10m hopping lately I tried on 29.15 and 18ks. John in Baltimore got a single frame but nothing sequential. Yesterday I used the new RF Shed to base a 13cm station at the bottom of the pump-up mast, running my QO-100 amp into a 46 element Loop Yagi via LDF4-50. The RF did not make it as far as Rob up on the N Yorks moors, but it did give me a chance to test the new LiFePO4 battery which was entirely happy to deliver 35A into the DC upconverter which then delivered 330W at 28V into the amp.
