New 8Gb RPi

Post by KA5BBC » Thu May 28, 2020 11:58 am

Just in case you missed the news....
The rumors are true..
The 8Gb RPi is now available to buy..
And a 64bit OS to go with it..

Apparently the numbers on this first batch are limited so I got my order (just one for now) in as quickly as I could.

I ordered at about 0730 yesterday and it arrived at 1000 today... from Canada.
This will probably be the base for my Langstone.

8 Gb seems overkill for the Langstone.

8Gb is probably more than most raspberry pi programs need. I am not sure about Portsdown but Langstone runs fine in 2Gb.

Unfortunately not everyone writes efficient code and I suspect that the future iterations of Portsdown/Langstone/Hayling will use more resources.
Either way it is always useful to have an extra Pi.
