Test Card

Post by G4NRT » Thu Aug 29, 2019 11:32 am

I have a general question for all you experienced DATVers!

My 5.6Ghz kit is almost ready to go - just a minor repair to make and I will be all set. Hopefully, I will be QRV somewhere in South East England all ready on top of a hill for a forthcoming activity weekend. Now, I believe that I need to be able to display a test card in order to fulfil my license conditions about identification of my station.

I am able to produce and transmit a test card using my Portsdown 2019 transmitter which is fine, but I do not know what to do for 5.6Ghz. I guess I could just tape a QSL card to something suitable and point my camera at that but I would rather be able to use an electronic one ... what's the best solution, or at least the solution that the more experienced members use?

Thanks and 73, David G4NRT

Get one of those cheap media players that display photos and use that to generate a test card. For 5.6 GHz you will need one with a video output.

Hello David,

My 5.6GHz transceiver has a built in card generator, the project is in one of the CQ-DATV mags.

Go here and download issue 12 https://www.cq-datv.mobi/ebooks.php

See the write up on page 30.

Mine has been working for about 3 years now.

I use the picdream2 design by f1cjn at https://github.com/F1CJN/PICDREAM-II

I can now "field program" the device with my phone and an OTG cable

Or better still connect it to the composite video out of your Portsdown Raspberry Pi and you can use the Portsdown test cards:

I wonder where you are located - happy to test anytime.

Thanks Noel. May be the simplest solution.

I'm in Rochester (JO01fj) but will look for a suitable hill on the South Downs!
