hi all - just perusing the rsgb band plan - and note :
5,760.750-5,760.800 MHz Local Beacons, 10W erp max 5760.800-5760.995 5,760.800-5,760.995 MHz Propagation Beacons only
now - these I suppose are ssb /cw ones - but anyone run a "personal beacon " on atv ??
would such be legal ?? - do you need an NOV ??
thoughts ?? - got me wondering as beacons period are a bit scarce this way - and might encourage some activity ??

Re: beacons
Hi Brett,
I had a go at a one of Andy Talbot's G4JNT beacons on 70cms, ran it in the All Mode section just above the beacons.
Could only run it when I was in, as it was not licenced as unattended, as you would need a NOV.
The beacons available out there will give you a indication of conditions. I monitor GB3VHF-GB3UHF from Kent.
Use a Yaesu FT8900R for 144.750 FM etc. and a couple of channels set to 144.430 MHz and 432.430 MHz AM, H/V at home V only mobile.
Have a look at beacons at Bell Hill in Dorset on http://www.scrbg.org/ including GB3SCC 5760.9050068MHz
Might be useful...

Re: beacons
Don't see why an ATV beacon would be an issue, but we are limited for space on 6cm for example so you cant fit a beacon in the band as well as the one simplex channel.
Max ERP is 25W and must not be within the designated 50km radius of several zones.
Loads of room on 10 and 24ghz where i have a cw beacon and may one day add ATV to that.
A narrow band DATV signal will fit easily though on most bands...
