On Screen Display
Hi guys,
What are the options for displaying call sign etc over your TX video ?
I have a video titler which works, but it's a tad cumbersome when /P.
Any suggestions greatly received.
Regards,
Chris M0KPW

Re: On Screen Display
Hi Chris,
There is an article in DATV 12 about the inexpensive MINIMOSD module used for model airplanes. The module has an ATMEL processor programmed as an Arduino and a MAX7456 OSD IC. As the module comes from the factory the processor is powered by 5V and the MAX7456 is powered by 12V. The article shows how to modify it for 5 volts only. I have used the module as is in an application that happened to have both 5 volts and 7 volts.
The article also has instructions to reprogram it for ATV use. The program included displays one fixed screen of information. If you familiar with Arduino programming you could use the serial link and provide more options.

Re: On Screen Display
Take a look at CQ-TV 257 page 19 - there's a similar arrangement that's being used on 5.6GHz by William G1BKF.

Re: On Screen Display
I'm currently building the Micro Minim OSD as in CQ-DATV issue 58, simple to build and looks as though it will be flexible enough for my planned operations.

...are you sure I can't use a pair of 813's?...
Re: On Screen Display
Thanks for all the pointers guys... will be taking a look
Re: On Screen Display
Well my micro minim osd unit is finished and I'm very pleased with the results. It's a very flexible little unit that's simple to build.

Re: On Screen Display
I've now modified my unit, because my Portsdown doesn't show outgoing video when using the composite input you can't see what text you've selected. I've added an eBay 3 way video splitter and extra outputs so I can feed a separate monitor, this works really well. This DATV is quite a learning curve.
