@ M0SKM - STEVE - um , so what prompted that decision for the mk2 ?? - cost - complexity - losses through the relay ?? - I ask because I WAS going looking for one at exter rally tomorrow - but may try and find another antenna instead if you think its a better way to go ................ thoughts please

first of the antennas turned up today nicely made bit of kit - 30 bdi gain ( claimed ) - so this will be the rx ant - and i'm hoping to pick up a panel antenna soon for tx bit less gain but as I hope to run 2 w I/P eventually that won't matter too much - as we used to say years ago on another band in another place " the legs and ears need to be roughly the same " ---------- in all not a bad a bad 56 euro's worth + 12 for ups delivery

its quite large - approx. 100 x 60 cm - but as i'm likely to be attempting longer and /or obstructed paths - owing to lack of activity down here - the more the merrier ...................

Initially I bolted a PA on the outside of MK1 as a test; there was no room for it inside.
Then a friend gifted me a nice big die-cast box to put it in. There are holes drilled in the bottom and top of the box and a fan on the PA.
When I started the MK2 build I decided to use 2 antenna's because there were fewer cables and connections and hopefully lower losses.

Hope your build all goes well and you find the bits you need.

Now what shall I do for MK3?

For those less 'technically' minded, I've built up my 5.6GHz ATV system very simply.
All the details are here http://www.5-6ghz-atv.co.uk/ in the hope that it might help those interested (but maybe put off by relays and the like) get one the air.

yes great work - that hopefully will encourage a few down this way too

Got fed up with the flimsy tripod I was using for 5GHz; on two occasions I had to catch it due to wind gusts. So I got hold of a surveyors tripod cheap, no it wasn't standing at the side of the road . Modifying the head was beyond me but Brian at Barenco came up with a solution and I used it for the first time today, It's rock solid and taller than the previous one.

Looks like I have the same model myself, but a little scratched and bashed, before I was given it a few years ago.

I bolted a 2" Scaffold tube wall mount adaptor, the type you see on rugged hand rails, has Allen screw for swapping out stub poles.

Suspect yours might be similar.

Hello Peter,
This is the modification made for my tripod.
Caps on both ends of the tube are threaded and the 8mm threaded rod passes through the centre adding rigidity.
Replacing the stainless washer with nylon and the wingnut with a nyloc means you can set the right amount of friction for rotation.

been rallying today - and found :

1x sivers lab - PM-7552 C/O relay - good to about 18 GHz apparently - BRAND NEW IN ORG PACKING -£10

1 X RACAL - MESL - MICROWAVE CIRCULATOR - NG-3657 - anyone know anything about these ?? - only £2 so no loss if no good for project

2 x good to 1000 MHz c/o relays - £5 ea - used the same type on UHF before - so they are certainly good to that

2 - gotta be ex-mil 4 port c/o relays £0.50 p ea - no info - just the usual mod numbers painted on - but useful for parts maybe

and a V/A MODULATOR MODEL MTV 2500 - http://www.imajteknik.net/marka/bitel-microprogetti - THE ONE BOTTOM LEFT IN THE FIRST PHOTO - £ 3 - its marked freq B 401 - 405 ( mhz ???? ) - again may be of no immediate use but i have passed up obscure stuff in the past only to see an artical 6 months later using that very thing ................. and cursed myself for not getting it

anyhoo - the main thing is the first one - so if it works ok - yah boo sucks to the flea bay rip off merchants wanting £££££ s for the same thing

so there are useful bits out there if you look - the rest - well makes for good "junk box " items ..................... AND the sun shon for a change - BONUS
