Re: ATV on 6cms - It's Cheap and Easy on 5665MHz
Hi guys I'm looking for a simple 5 Ghz field strength meter. I've seen a couple of circuits on the net but none of the recommended diodes appear to be available! I can't find anything ready made on Fleabay apart from one device from the states at around £21 plus postage!
A type and source of a suitable signal diode would be useful.

I know I've missed the activity weekend (business got in the way) but I have an opportunity to operate from Detling Hill next Saturday if anyone has a good path to it. I have a pair of flat plate aerials and a decent surveyors tripod and 2 watts. Just need to wire it all up to 12 volts.
I can have 2M talkback too.
Anyone likely to be around?
Latitude: 51.2983 , Longitude: 0.587641
Grid Reference : TQ 804586, QTH Locator: JO01hh
Thanks
Gareth

Morning all, I've been searching for the Tarot 5.8G modules without success, have alternatives been found/used since the original post, I've seen a few modules rated at 1w but lack any useful spec, could you point me in the direction of a seller that has the Tarot or an alternative.

Hi,
After reading all the posts in this thread (and if I understand correctly) we have a number of possible options for TX equipment. The 600 mW units, the PA's that will "boost" the 600 mW output to around 2 Watts and more recently 1 Watt tx units.
From earlier posts and links to members web-pages it seems the 2 Watt PA units can be somewhat "fragile" if not treated with care. Are the 600mW and 1 Watt varients just as fragile?
My current thoughts are to buy a couple of the 600 mW transmitters and a pair of receivers to evaluate but as the market place keeps changing I am finding it difficult to decide on the best choices currently offered on ebay.
So I should like to ask if anyone can point me towards a current supplier of tx equipment on ebay which has been shown to be successful and also any tips on preventing the tx from expiring I understand a good heatsink and fan are a wise precaution but does anyone know how sensitive these units are to supply Voltage and static damage etc.

My Tarot TX/RX units (TL300N) came from AliExpress and they still sell them; though not at the £14.00 I paid.
They also seem to be housed differently, the TX was in an aluminium case which was easy to heat sink.

I had an email from Barry G8AGN yesterday which may be of interest:
73 Noel - G8GTZThis is what I'm using at present and it seems to be OK. I have two of them and both give about 1.7w out.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000MW-5-8G- ... 2749.l2649
My only criticism is that the fan is a bit noisy but I can live with that. One advantage of the module is that it has a built-in electret mic and speech amp. I removed the mic and now use a remote one with very good results.
I have read somewhere that these Tx modules come in two versions. The higher power one, such as mine, has multi-coloured wires connecting the RF and control boards whereas the lower power one has only red wires.

Looks like the listing has expired and takes you to an alternative (Rx) unit. Do you have a fresh listing or model number?

This setup works for me and produces 3.9 Watts at the N connector.
Tarot TL300N screwed to double sided copper clad board; PA tack soldered to same board. Copper clad board bolted to diecast box with a dab of heatsink compound between.
Holes drilled top and bottom of diecast box to work as a chimney.
