James,
I think the callsign should read G8CMQ, which was Alan Latham, who ran a company producing ATV kit called Solent Scientific. After producing this transmitter kit for several years, he assigned the rights to distribute it to the Worthing Repeater Group, who sold many kits of parts for it during the 1980's and 1990's. It is an FM analogue TV transmitter with 6MHz intercarrier sound. The original design used a free running oscillator at signal frequency, although a two channel phase locked loop board was eventually produced by the Worthing Group. This was fitted vertically above the oscillator transistor. The power output varied from 1W to over 1.5W for good ones. If you Google "Worthing ATV Transmitter", you will find plenty of references to it.

G8CMQ also produced a 1 transistor mini transmitter for ATV . Using a BFR96 and then later modified using a BFR96S , it was housed in a small di-cast box. RF output was 10mw and a bit more with the BFR96S version. A review of it can be found in CQTV 128 page 51 . Very handy bit of shack kit for testing etc.
I did in fact use it more than once to get into GB3ET TV repeater from my home in Barnsley some 10 miles away . Reports were around a P4 . Handy to check antennas and using such low power proved them and the feeder too. I still have mine working good after 30 years. Main use checking antenna's.
