OSD units

Hello all,
I am starting a (small) build on an OSD (On Screen Display) unit to go between my camera and the transmitters.
Not 100% sure what I am going to do but thinking a PIC could do most of the work.
Now this is a simple question, anyone got any links or info about such units that wouldnt mind sharing?
I dont want to go out and buy a ready built unit, I enjoy the build so usual stuff, needs to be "cheap as chips" and almost bomb proof (read that as idiot proof hi).
regards
Gus M0IKB

For generating a testcard with some text there is the basic PICDREAM

For OSD there's this i came across recently, cant find the original one i built:

If you want something more modern there's the MAX7456 IC designs, have one here but not played with it yet.

Hi Gus,

If you really need to travel the PIC route then is this one also: -

Or PIC Dream as an OSD.

As Rob M0DTS has already mentioned the MAX7456 will provide you with more pleasing results, might still be able to obtain some samples
from Maxim.

I designed one myself. It uses a MAX7456, which is currently still in production. With a rotary encoder you can easy choose the position on the screen, then push it to select the character...
