Inappropriate Chat Stream Comments Problem

There is a cybersquatter who has intruded on as many as thirteen repeater stream chats over the BATC.TV network. He has been active since about the second week of March 2012 and shows no sign of slowing down. He was last observed tonight.

Because of his inappropriate comments, he was banned repeatedly by some repeater stream operators. The cybersquatter was then knocked off of some chats where the chat facility was restricted to logged in BATC members.

Part of the problem is that this cybersquatter continuously changes his IP address after being banned, making it easy to return to open chats. I wonder if the BATC staff can advise on how to proceed against the cybersquatter to prevent him from returning and making more disruptive or inappropriate chats?

The problem with this individual is that he posts inappropriate comments such as vulgarities, profanities, threats and harrasment of other chat users. He also posts about future activities he will bring to the chat, meaning that he commandeers the chat to his own uses.

The cybersquatter makes it difficult for other chat users to discuss ATV and other ham radio related topics. This individual has also disrupted ATV nets.

Hi Raleigh,
it would be nice if the BATC could do something about this persitant pain.

Best steps is whats being done already, although not a perfect answer restricting the streams to members is good, but you loose useful comments by non members on technical issues. He must run out of IP addresses at some point, but obviously he isnt getting the hint his comments are not asked for or wanted.

So far the only effective approach I have seen is for stream owners/operators to restrict their chat to members only. But those who choose to keep their chats unrestricted should continue to ban and log all the IP addresses used by the cybersquatter, as well as noting who the ISP is. Then they could report their problem to the hosting internet provider. Since so many streams are affected, it might be best to coordinate first with BATC staff for advice and assistance.

You are right that restricting streams is not a perfect answer. I have seen some people express concern about not allowing guests to participate in chats, even when nets are active, and also other concerns arise about members forgetting their login information!

Hi Raleigh I have now joined this post and it will be the last on this subject the more we air our objections to this in my opinion he his winning he will get feed up in the end,
the streaming is free to all the only thing we have to sign in which is no hard ship.
