BATC Composite Video Source for pi Zero

Hi,

Following the instructions for the video source for a pi zero, after the software build on a pi 4 and an sd card I have a problem, on reboot I get a shutdown message and no display it should show the first testcard according to the article, any help please.

I believe that the RPi4 doesn't support the openvg graphics used by the test card program. I'm just guessing, but it's possible that building it on an RPi4 doesn't install openvg correctly.

Try building it on something other than an RPi4.

The software will not work on a RPi 4. It will only run on a RPi 1, 2 or 3, or a Pi Zero or a Pi Zero W.

Thanks for all the replies, have it working on the pi zero but on the video out (not hdmi) the testcards are shifted to the left, and are not centered can the position be moved?

Hi Brian,

it should work 'out of the box'.

I haven't come across any ways to move the picture nor have I needed to.

There could be several causes:

- if you have been doing some editing, use a true text editor. Microsoft Word and Wordpad introduce special characters that will cause the file to not work. Notepad++ is recommended,

- the composit output connections on the RPi Zero, the square hole is the video output, the round hole is ground,

- could be that the monitor settings are causing the issue. Sync problem?

- it could also be that the SD-Card is corrupted, perhaps worthwhile rebuilding it if all other measures fail.

Each testcard is defined by a tcdata??.txt file. The 40 and 52 shown are the X and Y displacement of the images in pixels .

Good morning all, and a Happy New Year…

playing with a very old Pi looks like 2011, got the composite video source image on and updated the calls, powers up and displays TCF with call, but this version has a 26 pin header, using the zero and info in cqtv270 can’t get the moment switch on 18 and 20 to advance, GPIO 18 pcm clk? Looked and found pin out and tried the appropriate one on this version but still nothing…got a 3b coming from a friend in club…but am I missing something…oh and is the pico ok for this.

Hi Graham and HNY to you. The RPi Pico is not suitable for the test card generator I'm afraid. I'm not aware of any gpio pin differences between the early RPis and a Zero, but a standard zero works fine for the published diagram which is what I'm using for building the video source cards.

Thanks for the info Gareth, all sorted had to look up the pins of a 26 and compare against the 40 and realised which 2 to use…it’ll be a very handy piece of equipment..

Now another question/query how hard or is it possible, or already someone has, to put a Morse ID audio out, ideally, or a tone.

So much changed since last played ATV.
