Installing Open Tuner in Ubuntu Linux
Can I install Open Tuner in Ubuntu? If so, how? I have a virgin copy of Ubuntu on an external USB drive for trial purposes and would like to initially be able to decode my Minitiouner. I assume no one has created an installable package to run Open Tuner in Linux easily and it needs compiling, something I have never attempted?
If it can be installed do I need anything else adding for it to see the Minitiouner and work?
Thanks.

Re: Installing Open Tuner in Ubuntu Linux
No.
Open Tuner is based around libraries that are intended to be used in a Windows environment.
The core software that extracts the data from the transport stream for display is Long Mynd. The Ryde, Portsdown receiver and Open Tuner use this.
You would need to adapt that to run in Ubuntu. All the information you need is on GitHub.

Re: Installing Open Tuner in Ubuntu Linux
Ah! OK, thanks Clive. I wanted to see if Ubuntu ran most things I use this PC for without randomly crashing as Windows 10 has started to do. I ran Ubuntu off an external USB drive and it was up for 24 hours with no issues, but it wasn't running many apps, and certainly no DATV ones except DATV Reporter.
Getting Open Tuner running in Linux sounds like a PITA, even when reading GitHub it looks like it was devised to be as obtuse as possible.
I think I'll just persevere in getting Windows 10 running sweetly again, which probably means throwing money at this PC it which is something that pains me greatly
Thanks again Clive.

Windows 10/11 can be very stable. I have it running some slide shows in a shop window display using an Intel NUC.
It will run for days on end, usually until power cuts, due to the overhead supply, cause a restart .

Re: Installing Open Tuner in Ubuntu Linux
I totally agree, this PC ran for over three years, 24 / 7 and never missed a beat, then suddenly started to crash as if switched off and reboot to the log in screen. Sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes mid TX, sometimes just idling the day away.
I have tried a new PSU, re-seated everything, tried a Safe Boot, tried each of the two 16 gig memory modules one at a time, updated the BIOS, reloaded all the other motherboard drivers (which WERE up to date anyway). Still randomly crashed. Rolled back the video card driver, no help.
I then loaded a fresh copy the current UBUNTU onto a 2 gig external drive connected by USB, and booted off that. The system stayed up for over 24 hours until I shut it down...
Bloody computers! I'm borrowing a known good but elderly graphics card to try. A new AMD 5950X processor and a new motherboard are bit too costly to just throw at it and cross my fingers.
The fact UBUNTU ran 100% perfectly, but on an EXTERNAL drive made me wonder about the Samsung SSD, but Samsung's own drive testing software says it's OK. But I just tried re-seating the thing, in case it's not fully contacting the socket...
EDIT, one thing I should try is running it without a browser loaded. I THINK it may have had a browser running each time it's crashed. So many bloody things it COULD be... Give me an F1 engine any day of the week rather than these things <LOL>
Thanks Clive.

Re: Installing Open Tuner in Ubuntu Linux
Ironically, it is often the power supply that goes. Either the external one or the one built into the mother board.

Modern CAN-BUS passenger car and truck ECU's have commendable fault logging, it's a pity a modern PC just gives what seem to be ambiguous and cryptic log files.
