Eccosorb microwave absorber
I am going to need some microwave absorber material for a high power 23 cms SSPA that I am building (W6PQL design). The designer used 'Eccosorb' but that is eye-wateringly expensive! I wonder if anyone knows of a suitable alternative, please?

Meant GDS not DDD
Re: Eccosorb microwave absorber
Thanks Nick. I'll check out the spec. with W6PQL. However, I fear I'm going to need a lot more than you have. That's why I wondered if there is a cheaper option.

Re: Eccosorb microwave absorber
I (and others) have had some success using 'Microwave Plate Warmers' by Waveware which can be found on Amazon and eBay etc.
They are made of a rubber material that appears to be impregnated with carbon or iron. Obviously intended to absorb power at 2.4GHz but as far as I can tell there is no frequency sensitive part to their design.
Some people also suggest using antistatic foam but that has never been very successful for me.

F1CHF near Paris France
Re: Eccosorb microwave absorber
Colin - what a clever idea! Do you mean this sort of thing? Ebay ref 386362653167
Francois - thank you for the link, I am grateful. It looks as though the min. frequency is 1.5GHz and they are still expensive for a big piece!

Re: Eccosorb microwave absorber
The ones I used were the black rubber type with the three circular 'ears' around the outside.

They have several large plain areas that can be easily cut into usable shapes.
I am not sure what the performance would be like at 1.2GHz but they might be worth a try.
