Visiting Ham from the States

Post by WO0C » Sat Dec 31, 2022 10:37 am

Hello all,

I am a fairly new member of the ham radio community, from the United States but visiting my brother in Southampton until 13 January. I’d love to meet up with the community while I’m here.

In particular, it would be very exciting to see DATV in action on the QO-100. I am wondering if anyone would be willing to show me their station, so that I could see the QO-100 in person.

Please PM or reply to this thread with any information or questions.

I look forward to speaking with you!

Thanks!

Hi Ben I live just outside Southampton near Romsey and would of gladly met up but I'm currently in hospital. There are a few of us in this area who may be able to demonstrate QO100 for you. There is always the KLB show most evenings from 7pm on GB3SQ @ https://batc.org.uk/live/gb3sq.

I also believe there is still a Southampton radio club kicking about as well as the Itchen valley club. Sorry I'm not a member of either club so don't know where or when they meet.

There are some VHF UHF repeaters about if you have any radios with you ?

Anyway hope you enjoy your stay and hopefully one of the other DATV'ers manage to give you a chance to experience QO100 🤞

Hi Ben,

There are a few ATVer's on QO100 in the wider Southampton area;

Myself in Basingstoke

Jim G0DQH in Chandlers Ford

Colin G4KLB in Bournemouth

Dave G8GKQ near Salisbury

Russ G4SAQ near Botley.

Let us know when you are around and have free time and I'm sure we can arrange a visit - a Thursday evening may be best as we would be on the BATC net which is also streamed live here: https://batc.org.uk/live/oscar100net

Thanks all for the info!

G7JTT, I reached out to Malcom G0WFQ and David M0XIX from the Southampton radio club to ask for more information.

G8GTZ, I sent you a pm and Basingstoke, Chandlers Ford, and Botley are closest. This Thursday evening would work, depending on the time.

Thanks!

Hi Ben,
I live in Botley which is about 10km east of Southampton. I will be happy to show you my station. If you would like to come round this Thursday evening you could see the BATC QO100 net in action. It starts at 8pm and lasts just over 1 hour. If that doesn't suit, you can come at some other time.
I don't give my address on QRZ.com but my email can be found there if you wish to message me personally - which would be best.
I don't know how the private message system works on this forum but if you can work it out, by all means use that.
Best wishes,
Russ, G4SAQ
