10ghz. Interference to sky ..help

Post by G4HTZ » Sun Mar 06, 2016 10:10 pm

Been on ssb on 10ghz today working Belgium and down to Salisbury ...then came a knock on the door from a neighbour saying I was wiping out her sky system ....I am running 10w to a zone 2 sky dish at 14m agl.
Her dish is about 75ft away mounted about 4m agl.
I was even causing. Interference to her off the back of my tx dish.

I had planned to put up a 10ghz atv system running 10w ...but have put that on hold to problem hopefully resolved.

Anyone else had a similar problem ...or can suggest a solution

Thanks
Steve

I have not heard of this before but I am not surprised if you are running such high power. Satellite LNBs can't cope with strong local signals due to their high gain. It would seem your signal is getting in. Either you in the same direction as the satellite (unlikely given its 29 degrees of elevation) or in a sidelobe of her system. Sky dishes are built down to a price and if its old, damaged or miss-aligned signals might be weak and sidelobes not great so perhaps a better quality one would help.

I have not seen this with my QRO (3W) system which is no more than 10m away from my satellite dish, but to be fair I have not tried a comprehensive test and it might just be a few channels.

Steve

Although I also suspect straight overloading, have you considered that the interference might be at Sat IF frequency? What frequency do you mix up from?

Going to do some tests with my own freesat system here tommorow ...a few kW erp straight at my dish should be a good test :D
